Hastilow dressage saddles

Hi everyone! I’m using a hastilow dressage saddle on a hard to fit Arabian. It fits her perfectly but the seat size I have is too small. I’m searching high and low for a medium wide 17-17.5 inch seat. Does anyone know where to find a second hand one or a brand with a similar nice deep seat? Thanks!

Have you looked at eBay?

Here’s a 17" in wide, with an adjustable gullet plate:

Or Google?

Here’s a 17.5" also adjustable, selling with a MW:

Not sure if this one is adjustable. Wide but they say it fits like a MW:

Etc etc. There seems to be a few of them out there?

Hi thanks! Was looking at spending a tad less but have to just go for it. Thanks

Have you tried the Hastilow US website? They always have a lot of nice used saddles on there and you can trial them…

Google also turns up this one. Very little info about the tree or if it’s adjustable but maybe you’d like to reach out for more info given it’s lower price.

If you need info on the saddle at Another Turn either call or I’m stopping by there this weekend.

Ohh sure if you can check it out!? Need a medium wide :blush::blush:

I’ll look at it.

Is Fairfax similar? Really appreciated

Seeing as I just spent like $5500 or so on a brand new one… Cough. I snagged a perfect one on eBay a few years ago, a jump saddle, but nonetheless, very happy to get it and I think I paid about $2k. My fitter who is a Hastilow rep wasn’t even salty about it because 18s aren’t easy to come by used and she understood, and she happily took my money to restuff and fit it to two different horses now

My understanding is they are all adjustable, as in I’ve never seen one that wasn’t and I’ve had three now plus a Fairfax which is based on the same tree or vice versa. Word to the wise, if you’re riding in something super small and size up considerably, say a 16 to a 17.5, it may not still fit her. No clue your situation. Like I said, I’m an 18 because that’s what I’m most comfortable in, even though technically I size perfectly well to a standard 17.5…

Thanks so much. So the horse I’m
Riding now is 19 and I’m riding in a 16 inch seat. I find it’s a tad snug tilts me a bit too forward. I’ve used a 17.5 on her before in other brands which worked. The problem is I don’t have a saddle fitter here so I don’t want to spend a ton of it won’t work. Would a 16.5 name much of a difference I wonder?
Maybe it’s best for me to buy from a consignment saddle place that I share the measurements of her so I’m not guessing it will work? Thanks!

Most of the Fairfax’s are on a different trees. There are a few models built on the same tree as the Hastilows. The open seat was one of the models.

Do the Fairfax saddles use different trees other than the Simatree?

There are two versions of the Simatree — the original one and the second version.

Interesting. Do you have any info on the second version (link to website perhaps?)

I’ve been selling them since 2014. Since then, there have been two trees, and neither was new back then. Most of the Fairfax models you’re familiar with are actually in their second version. Over the years, a few Fairfax models, like the open seat/Spencer models and the Hastilows, were based on the original tree. That original tree features a rounder, wider cantle among other differences.
