Hauling Horses Thru Illinois

Can someone tell me if there is still a Rule about calling ahead to tell Illinois Officials you will be crossing the State with a horse?

I recall this Rule being in effect some years ago, with law enforcement being able to stop you,
ticket you, make you turn around and return to the State line. It was such a strange Rule that it really stuck in my head! We have had no reason to haul horses thru Illinois, so I was curious if it was still in effect or had been removed?

A friend will be hauling thru Illinois on Thursday, so we need to know. She has her Coggins, Health certificate. Then I remembered this peculiar rule we can’t find information about!

Thanks for any help.

We hauled through Illinois last year with no problems. Like you, we had our paperwork in order and did not call ahead.

I haul in and out of IL to neighboring states all the time. Besides Health Cert & Coggins, I’ve never brought anything else and never had an issue

You only need a coggins and health certificate if you’re out of state. All my years hauling in state I’ve never been stopped or asked for anything.

You’ll be fine.
