hauling mini and cart brainstorming needed

I have a 3 horse slant. My horse goes in 1st and then my cart is in the back with shafts up over my horse tied to the ceiling.
It takes up the rear 2 stalls but has a bit of room in front of it below the shafts.

The body is anchored forward to some cleats with tie downs and also tied toward the rear. The wheel rests up against the back door also to stabilize it.

I need to figure out how to haul a mini in front of my cart. I need to build a small stall so he can’t move around and get in the tie straps. I also can’t let the box stall rub the newly restored cart.

Coming up with a box shouldn’t be too difficult but not sure what or how to attatch it for easy and quick handling and be secure.
Any ideas appreciated.

Attach the mini’s cart outside the trailer. Notice how the standardbred people haul their carts going to races. The wheels are probably pretty narrow. Get a bike wheel guide and mount it on a stable platform, anchor the shafts to a fitting on the roof and you’re good to go. Many trailers have a residual 2" mount on the back from when they were first built…look at the supplemental carrying racks that go behind trucks, that may give you a good base.

What if you went to your trailer manufacturer, or a good welder and had a stall divider made for the mini? Something like this:

But you just need one small divider to still allow the cart shafts to go up and over. I dont know how low your front divider goes for the horse, but you might need to get a lower stud divider added, my mini could just slip his butt under my dividers. I always worried about hitting a bump and cracking his spine under the divider… My new trailer, i got stud dividers on every one because it made me more aware of how a shifting horse could step on it’s neighbor too. Love it.

I am just hauling the mini 1 time so I will build something out of wood and it needs to be cost effective. It is not a mini cart I am hauling it is a very expensive heavy and BIG full size cart so I need to keep it inside the trailer.

I would worry about that big heavy cart crushing something wood should it shift… And you cant get your horses out quick should it happen as you have to get that cart undone and out first… Would be a tricky issue. They make cart carriers for the back that are stronger for the heavier/bigger carts. CartFall has posted pics of hers which is a bit extravagant for a one time deal, but the actual “legs” for the cart wheels are the same/similar as ones that you bolt directly to your trailer doors which sell for $200 or so i think. Yes, not exactly cheap, but you can use them down the road vs shafts over your horses…

I have a 3 horse. I cant imagine squeezing a mini in front of my large pony cart, but maybe yours is a little longer. I would hate to bolt in wood dividers and leave holes in my trailer for something that was only a one use thing too.

Is it something you can just make two trips for?

That cart won’t come near the wood. The shafts are tied to the cieling and if the ties came undone the stud partition wall will still hold it up and it is too long to fall down unless the rear doors opened up. I regulary haul it this way just not with the mini.

I am going to the National drive 10 hours away and wanting to take 1 rig. This cart is too nice and there is no way I would hang it on the back of the trailer. The way it is designed and it is a tall gig it just wouldn’t do well there up on end all off balance.

In front of the gig is actually quite a bit of room for the mini I just need to keep him contained away from the tie straps.
I am also thinking I could strap the stall to the stud wall so as not to have to drill holes in my trailer but I want it to be secure.

Now I want to know what you will be driving at the National Drive!

???
I will be driving my sport horse and my friend will be driving her mini. I think I have the stall design worked out pretty well.
