I read that post to mean that the horse is deceased (hence “old owner”) and the owner wants to get a (human) tattoo on himself of the horse’s JC number. Presumably not on his lip!

Maybe you are right. Text only conveys so much without specific details often not shared in a post.

Since the old owner presumably never knew the JC number, it’s hard to see how there would be a sentimental attachment to it.

He might be better off getting a tattoo that says “44”.

He actually did know it at one point. But he is not a 46 year old man that misses his horse terribly. Reggie (Forty four)died when the owner was still young.

It sounds like maybe somebody just printed out his pedigree and race record for her, and she doesn’t have any official papers from anywhere.

OP, if you want to post a photo of the lip tattoo (even if you think it isn’t readable) and photos of any markings on his face and legs, I’d be happy to try to find his number for you.

Yes, with photos as listed in that post and color/sex of horse. If you think you know what his registered name is, that can help verify. If you happen to have his papers, then it’s easy to determine what the tattoo is from the reg number.
