Have you ever

Seen a women take her helmet off when she is doing a victory lap? At least in show jumping I haven’t seen any women take her helmet off.

We know how spicy horses can get during the victory lap, it seems prudent for everyone to keep their lids on.

Generally, women haven’t removed their helmets due to hairnets-- no one wants to redo that or show off the “lunch lady” effect of cramming one’s sweaty hair into one. Men can just whip it off and wave it around…their helmet, that is.

I agree, that your lid should remain in place while mounted, no matter how cool you think you are.

I agree it’s not the safest practice. I do think it has something to do with the national anthem, although men tend to remove them whether or not the national anthem is played

I actually don’t understand why they allow it. At least in eventing, current FEI and USEF rules require helmets on at all times when mounted.

ETA: I guess the FEI rule allows disciplines to make their own rules about whether to require helmets during award ceremonies. That seems ridiculous to me. I’m not clear why they think award ceremonies are magical events where nothing could ever go wrong.

LOL,

I’m seeing more women in show jumping not using hair nets, so they wouldn’t have that problem.

I’ve seen some people take their helmets off during pictures if they won, but I don’t see a lot of women taking their helmets off for victory laps either.

hat tipping / waving has traditionally been a habit of men in all walks of life.

Anthem guidance for the US is that men remove their hats unless military uniform where they salute. Women are not expected to do so.

Lap of honor and winning round hat doffing is a foolish affectation IMO
