Have you heard of this brand of Aussie saddle?

I saw a used saddle at the local tack shop. Its a hornless Aussie and on the sides are stamped “Cougar Farm Poley 3” along w/a cougar head logo.

It looks interesting as there are not only the front poleys but there are smaller ones behind your thigh as well. Has anyone tried riding with that type of saddle?

Input and thoughts are greatly appreciated!

I haven’t heard of this brand before. Interesting…

My bf has an Aussie with both the front and back poleys and he finds that it gives him that little bit of extra security. I’ve ridden in it quite a bit as well and love it. They only problem is that it holds you in so nice and snug that posting to the trot is a bit hard. I’m used to my Aussie with just front poleys.

The smaller back poleys are just to help your leg stay in position. My Passier Military saddle has those too.

Just be careful of the leather, a lot of the aussie saddles are Indian made of some really ghastly leather. Be careful about the size too, some sale websites have pretty good descriptions on how to make sure the saddle fits you.

They are comfy saddles and you do stay in them. Good luck. You can get some very reasonably priced saddles new that will fit your horse vs. a used one. There may not be much of a difference in price.

Don’t judge the leather solely on the site of manufacture. I just bought two from AussieSaddles.com and spoke in length to Colin, the owner. His saddles are made in India, but of superior materials. The quality control is all done by him, here in the US, and his saddles (although “made in India”) are superb!

Thank you all for your input! I noticed that saddle is still for sale at the tack shop. Now I’ll put a renewed interest into it and check out the leather quality. However, the difficulty with posting is a concern too.

I have an inexpensive Aussie saddle that I LOVE. It is the most comfortable saddle I have ever ridden in, but it is HEAVY. Everytime I saddle up I say I’m going to sell it, by the time I’m back from the ride I want to keep it.
