Have you seen this horse guy on YouTube?

Hi,
I am going to stick my neck out here as a new girl to this forum and hope I don’t get blown away.

Its been awhile since I have had horses and am looking into possibly getting them again. Honestly no rush though. I have been looking at this and that just trying to refresh if you will.
then…
I came upon some videos on youtube that really had me on both sides of the fence with this guy. I was hoping to get other peoples input because I’m not sure if I stand alone on these thoughts or not.

The videos are “Think Like A Horse”
has anyone seen these? On some respects, he has learned about natural care, and that’s what I practiced mostly as long as I was in the position to.
But man…
this guy… he does put women down a lot and then takes it offensive when they say something. He can’t take the heat in the kitchen he created. He decides he will put men down to show he isn’t sexest, but then blames the men on the women in the horse world. It doesn’t seem to me that he has real control over his horses when he handles them, and some of his videos are titled one thing, but hit on another, if they hit on anything at all at times. You get many times, a 15 minute video and 3 minutes of information that’s worth having. He doesn’t seem to practise what he preaches in some of them, and well, I just don’t know. He made one video where the whole thing is all about making fun of the names people name their horses. I feel the name chosen makes no difference in the care they receive. Sometimes its children that names our animals. So I guess he feels like a big man making fun of them? This coming from someone that named his mustang Mr.T… And his other horse is Buddy, which is a cute friendly type name itself. He doesn’t seem to realize that some people board and don’t have a lot of say in the yards they are kept in. One of the things he is convincing people of, is that horse people are woman dominant, so therefor all or most the issues are because of women. I see lots of horsemen. A rodeo alone is male dominant. And I have seen many male jumpers, trailers. Huntsman seem to be male dominant as well… Am I wrong here? I think its pretty equil between horseman and horsewomen… Do you agree?
In the comments people say that he puts people off at first, but then he makes sense and there are a lot of beginners going to him for advice. I do see where he’s giving good advice in some areas, but then not so much in others.
From what I can gather, he’s only had horses for 2 years. And these are the only 2 horses he has had. Now he’s an expert.

Am I Being harsh? Because I even tried to like the guy and watched a lot of what he had up… And I just kept finding issues with him. So I was just wondering what you might think. Thanks…

I didn’t bother looking for the specific video, but will say YouTube is open to anyone and free. So you’re going to get the crazies and the yahoos etc. I certainly would not the relying on random videos for my horse (re)education.

Find a competent well respected trainer in your areas. Good practices don’t change significantly over time. If you’re getting back into things you really just need someone to refresh the basics and get you moving again.

Ah, Rick Gore. He’s generally thought of as awful and incredibly sexist. Except by those who think he’s got “some good points.” He deletes the comments of people who disagree with him and blocks them. He refers to women who calls him out on his nonsense as “barn witches” and says their horses are going to kill them because they coddle them…wait, or is that Clinton Anderson?

ANYWAYS, don’t rely on Youtube equestrians to get back in the saddle. Like toady said, find a trainer who you feel safe riding with and who has a good reputation. Way more fun than youtube too!

Rick Gore thinks helmets are dangerous. Nuff said.
If you enjoy watching videos Warwick Schiller is a good horseman to watch. He is a western rider but most of his methods will work for any discipline.
What he has to say makes a lot of sense and he does not trash talk other people in his videos.
I watched a video about training horses to tolerate water in the face.
My horse hates it. Well I tried his method on my horse and it did work.
My horse still doesn’t love it but he is calm now and quiet and let’s me do it.
You can still watch Rick Gore but I would turn the sound off.

Too many of these guys think they can jump on the gravy train by putting out a few videos…but too often they are no Ray Hunt, just dreamers.

He’s a disgusting pig of a human being.

Take a ride on the COTH Way Back Machine:

:lol:Agree and agree. Also, I’m always suspicious when someone with 1 post asks questions like these.
Anyways! Rick Gore is really small potatoes in my mind. He’s a regular backyardigan who likes to bring a camera around to record himself talking.

Warwick Schiller is awesome. He even has a website you can subscribe to and it’s so worth it (especially if you’re a ground work nut like me).

Thanks for directing me to someone to watch that’s worth watching. I just can’t stomach another second of this guy. The one where he decided to teach his buddy to ride… Holy cow, I wanted to run over there and save the poor dude before he got him killed. Anyway, I just need to not get started on that one… Ill keep going.

That makes sense that he is deleting and blocking real horse people when they say something to him. That’s what was confusing me. I was like, how is it nobody is saying anything to him? I just can’t be the only one seeing all these issues. Is it me? Is it? So I took the chance of being yelled at by asking about him.

In my area, most people that have horses have the land to put them on. There are only 3 boarding areas and only one of them has a good reputation. Good luck getting into it, she’s always full because people don’t give up their spot there. I swore that I would never have horses again unless I have land of my own to put them on. And we are talking about that being a possibility. That said, there are no real trainers or barns to go to here in the belly button of Kansas. When I was a kid, my dad put me through some riding lessons. Besides that, I wasn’t exactly on the “in” crowd around the stables. Kids with abusive homes are usually not well accepted anywhere else either. So I just stayed away from the other kids and adults who were equally not nice and did my own thing. It was difficult to learn stuff that I needed to. When we came back to Kansas… well… like I said, they just don’t have the things here that most places do. So learning is very difficult when your not on the in crowd. I basically had to read, read, read books, magazines and learn from my gelding. I think I did pretty good, and my kids learned from me and they did good too. I gave horses up when I was in abusive relationships and we were all going without because of it. The places I boarded at were not good places. I didn’t dare leave it up to them to care for my animals, the people who did had skinny horses that stood in a dark stall all day without ever getting mucked out. It got to be to much and I had to let them go.

Sorry about the long version of my story, lol… I’m a bit of a realist, I’m not one of those people who pretend my life is perfect. I’ve come a long way, and there’s no reason to hide it.

I am now with a good man, and things are coming together. He’s a city boy from Ohio with a country girl in Kansas, lol… He has never even been around horses. So, while he is teaching me about Harleys and things that I love but not been around, I’m gonna teach him about horses and raising meat rabbits and such… and roughing it a little…
so
I thought, in this day with youtube and other internet sources that just were not there for me before… till the end, but then I didn’t have access to it at that point anyway… I just thought… Maybe there’s something out there that I can learn from that I always missed out on before. But when I ran into the Gore videos, as I said, I was completely beside myself that anyone was buying into this and no one was saying something to him. But now I know…

I do wonder though… I don’t understand what you’re suspicious of? I didn’t say I thought he was great. I actually spoke against him and wanted feed back on this. Like I said, I just jump in with questions and such. I figure it this way… If I’m not welcome because of that, well… its nothing I’m not used to. So its not a big deal, I’ll just keep searching for answers. So far everyone has been nice and I do appreciate it for sure.

Noticing your user name, I hope it is not prophetic.

What happens sometimes, new posters come on here as trolls to get a rise out of who knows what.

Take no notice if that is not the case.

You have to love what is in print and on the net.

One of the horse books I picked up is on teaching instructors. You couldn’t go wrong with that right?

Until I read that one of the exercises I should be teaching people to hunt is to teach them to jump and take their hat off over the fence… Yeah right! NO.

Okay thanks…

oh, my user name, lol… I am a Hearse Girl. I really like cars and I really love hearses. My daily ride is a 1988 Delta Olds hearse. I would show a pic, but I don’t think this will allow me to. My boyfriend is a hearse guy and is actually how we met is through the hearses. He first kissed me on 4th of July while we were hanging out on top of his cadillac fleetwood hearse. We had been friends for a year and often hung out… So it was kind of a shock, and the best thing that happened to me. Somehow, hearses are always involved when great things happen to me, lol… So I just love them all the more

Right now we are trying to get both of them ready for hearsecon in June in Denver Colorado.

LOL, take your hat off over the fence? Holy cow. And that’s in a book? Wow, can’t trust anything I guess…

Hearsegirl, Kat the Horse here…who lives right outside of Brookville, KS. I think you are the first person I’ve met on here who is within shouting distance.

I never even knew Hearsecon was a thing… you learn something new every day!

HearseGirl, I need more info on Hearsecon! I’ve seen a hearse around Denver decked out like the Batmobile.

I like exploring cemeteries – old country cemeteries or small town ones are my favorites. They are usually located in beautiful spots, too.

My folks should have named me Morticia.

Oh my god you guys, this is so awesome!! I thought I was probably the only weirdo that mixes this stuff into my life, lol… Okay, so first…

Kat the Horse, that’s way cool!! I don’t have any right now but am working towards most likely getting back into them as I said. I always wanted riding buddies but just never had them. So maybe when I do get some again, we can ride together? Would be fun, totally didn’t expect to see anyone here so close. I’m in Solomon.

Milocalwinnings, Yes, I had been trying to go to Hearscon every year for some time. Everytime something comes up that keeps me from going. This year Martin and I are both determined on going. We always follow whats going on with it.

ThreeFigs, The bat hearse you saw is owned by Zachary Byron Helm. You would have seen him with a big mohawk. He is actually the one that runs Hearse Con in Denver. I have spoken to him quite the few times over fb and so has my boyfriend, Martin… He is out there like the rest of us and we love him to death. He has LOTS of youtube out there. If you look him up on fb, I’m sure he would be happy to talk to you. He is the nicest guy. Just know it actually takes him a long time to get to you because he gets so much mail. And he has a pretty girlfriend to pay attention to too… They are so cute together. You can look up on the net about hearsecon. theres stuff up every year. And… if your interested in being a hears person, Zack has them for sale a lot at decent prices and he’s very trustworthy and honest to a fault…

I’m Stefanie Lynn. If you can find me… He’s in my friends, that may help too.

Oh, and… Hearses do get names, my boyfriends is Morticia. hehe… Mine is Stella.
