Hawk trailer - stripe versus vinyl decal

I’m looking at a new Hawk 2 horse bumper pull and have a choice regarding vinyl decal or stripe. Same price.

The decal is a 7 year vinyl and is pretty inexpensive to replace. If the paint cracks and chips the trailer needs to be reskinned, which is pricey. But if taken care of it can last a lot longer than 7 years.

Does anyone have experience? My trailer will be parked outside in the elements. I am in Missouri. I DO plan on keeping up with waxing it.

Thank you!

Elizabeth

I actually went with plain white except for the Hawk logo, it’s pretty sharp looking.

My Hawk – bought about 10 years ago – had black pin stripes. They all gradually chipped, peeled off and otherwise self destructed. Look terrible. Maybe I just got a bad batch of pin striping – or they were not put on correctly at the factory.

A friend of mine has same trailer – bought at same time as mine – and her pin stripes remain intact. I don’t know what this means.

My used 4-Star had a Calf Roper decal on it.
I asked the dealer to remove it & they did, but it left an impression.
If you look closely you can still see it.
I ride dressage & don’t really care, but for future resale I’d go with pinstriping rather than any discipline-specific decal.

My hawk has the standard stripe. It still looks great, after 17 years sitting outside and being waxed maybe twice.

2dogsfarm, the decal is just a design and not discipline specific. It’s either a swoosh decal or stripes. I’m wondering if I will be dealing with the paint chipping on the stripes which is a lot more money to fix than just replacing a decal.
