Hawthorne's Sole Pack is awesome.... how did I go my whole life not knowing?

I have been a loyal magic cushion user for sole packing. It’s a gooey, hard to use mess. I wear gloves putting it on because it’s so sticky. If it gets on ANYTHING you’d better just throw that thing away. It dries into the most awful glop in the container if you don’t use it up right away.

I have a horse with slightly sore soles and needed more MC. On a whim I ordered Hawthorne’s instead.

WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN MY WHOLE LIFE?

Individual packets with just the right amount. On a piece of plastic wrap that you can use to protect your hand, no need for gloves. Goes on beautifully and sticks to the HOOF but nothing else.

Had to shout it out. I love this stuff. Yeah, it’s a bit more expensive but worth it for the ease of use. And I waste the MC anyway getting it stuck on stuff. I wish I had discovered Hawthorne’s earlier!

Thanks for the heads up!

I always have it around. It’s so handy and works so well. Best sole pack, in my opinion!

I remember saying I preferred Hawthorne’s Sole Pack to Magic Cushion on a thread here a few years ago and was basically run off with pitchforks and torches.

Hawthorne’s > Forshners > magic cushion

Hoof patties on that plastic sheet are so much easier, I agree!

Hawthorne’s is easier to apply for sure, but I think magic cushion works better on a foot sore horse.

But if I was looking for a post abscess packing where I am just toughening up that sole that is mushy soft from all the soaking to get the damn thing to drain down instead of traveling up the hoof wall, Hawthorne for sure.

I learned about Hawthorne’s here in a “what is in your tack trunk” thread. It is GREAT for packing hooves at a show.

Thanks for the heads up! I for many years, have been a Forshners fan, started using MC a couple years ago, but I always end up cursing because it gets everywhere, hard to apply, etc.

I have also mixed some Forshners with MC, and used that - a little easier to apply.

I will definitely get some Hawthornes to try.
