First: hello! and I’ve been quietly reading older posts about hay analysis and questions from other members and thought I’d ask for input on my own analysis.
Of special interest to me is nutritional needs for a borderline IR horse who recently foundered and an older gelding with Cushing’s.
Just received my hay analysis results, and would like to know if any of you nutrition buffs can can give some input. I was concerned by the high iron, but have read that it may not be that big of a deal. If this iron content is truly high enough to cause concern, from my research I’d need to supplement higher copper and zinc? My confusion comes in because I think the amounts of copper and zinc I’d need to supplement would be higher than the recommended doses for horses?
I’ve attached a screen shot of the results.
This is timothy/orchard grass hay we baled about a month ago (mid-july), located near central Iowa, and have put enough up to last about a year. Now that I’ve got the hay analysis I want to further customize to their needs.
Thanks in advance!
