Hay carry bags

What is everyone’s favorite bag to stuff a bale in to bring to a show or whatever? I’m tired of using trash bags… :grinning:

A friend gifted me a storage bag for artificial Christmas trees that she found midsummer in a liquidator place for $25.

I do not think I can get a full 125 lb 3 string bale in because of how it opens but I could get the equivalent from opened 3 string bales. It’s wide enough for 3 string flakes. It has wheels on one short end and tote straps. I used it recently for horse camping and it was great.

If I was buying a purpose made product I would think about how much hay I needed for the trip and make sure the zipper was set into the edge so you could open it up and slip it over a bail.

I was away 4 nights so went through likely 80 lbs of hay and had another day left over which was perfect.

I’ve also gone camping before with compressed Timothy which is also fantastic, a 60 lb bale is about half the size of a regular 2 string bale. We found 2 of these for two horses/ 3 nights were perfect.

You can also stuff hay nets in advance and put them in garbage bags so they don’t shed or get rained on.

A bale bag for a full bale. I recently got one of these, and I use it for dirty horse laundry, but it would hold enough hay for a couple days and is really sturdy

Amazon moving storage bags are cheap, and I bought an XL pack that holds a 50lb 2-string bale. I wouldn’t move it with the handles that attach to it (would probably tear them with prolonged use) but it works well to contain a bale and then I move it around with a wheelbarrow. Bonus is it keeps the hay tidy in the aisle at horse shows.

I was looking for a used hockey bag… Was gonna air it out substantially before use. BUT, then I went to a local used tack sale, and got a hay bale bag with wheels, apparently had never been used. Got it for $15. I just had to black out the “pee wee champion mutton busting” embroidery with a black felt pen. Good deal.

I’m old and sick of things being harder than they have to be, so I broke the bank and got the roller hay bags that dover carries. A couple seasons in and they are still ok. I had to do a duct tape patch on a tiny hole but ok pretty sure that was from a mouse, not wear and tear (now I store them hanging upside down from a harness hook so no more critter issues)

I love this bale bag

Though my husband jokingly calls it the body bag when it’s loaded up and thrown in the back of the truck :upside_down_face:

I had that one, it made it one yea before it had a lot of tears But if you nevereverever get tired and drag it the rest of the way to your vehicle (or stall aisle) it will probably last longer!
