Wondering what people were paying for hay and where they are located. I am in east Alabama and pay 4-5 a bale in the field or 7-8 at the feed store. Rounds 4X5 go for about 40 in the field and 65 in the feed store. All hay is coastal bermuda.
I’m right next door in west Georgia, and Coastal is $7 at the feed store. I can’t feed that though… so Orchard/Alfalfa is $12.50 and Timothy/Alfalfa is around $15.
SwVa-just picked up some nice bales of orchard (50lb?) for about $7 at the farm equip store. I knew it would be a bit pricey but our hay truck is down. We have been paying $35 per round bale 4x4 that is loaded in the truck for us. It is good but not great hay.
$5/bale for large gorgeous quality coastal delivered. Southeast.
$9 (gulp) for smallish coastal squares, delivered and stacked. Not gorgeous quality. Austin TX.
We pay $150 to $170 a ton, after saying we would never pay over $100 a ton about ten years ago. This economy sux. We weigh and sort out how much each bale weighs and sort it out, we don’t buy by the bale, only by the ton. We usually buy several ton at a time.
We are in the extreme drought area of eastern Kansas. Last year my hay guy only raised his price by 25 cents per bale to cover the increased cost of fertilizer and I paid $4.75 a bale for a 60# brome bale. Horse quality brome round bales of the larger size were $65 a bale IF you could get one. Hay was very scarce last year with most producers getting 50% of what they normally baled. 
At the sale barn in town on Friday folks have been paying $8-$10 for brome square bales. The price should come down a little now since the worst of winter is behind us and folks who found and bought extra hay are starting to release a little bit of it now.
Last year I was paying 11$ for alfalfa/orchard mix - about 80% alfalfa - it would be even more if it was bought from a tack/feed store. 8-10$ for okay orchard grass/timothy mix… don’t have a horse in NY currently, but I’ve been shopping around and it seems to run from 3-6$ here.
About $400/ton for long stem Bermuda from California… not stacked in the barn, 110/120 pound bales
Most of the local growers stopped because of the draught and having signed million dollar natural gas drilling/production contracts
In north central Ohio. Just paid $4.00 bale for 45 lb bales mixed grass of lovely quality hay. (Had to load/haul myself.) Plenty advertized on Craig’s List at 2X the price but nobody actually paying those prices as the adds run & run & run…
Until the local farmer sold out, $4.50 a bale, 60 lb. bales, for the most beautiful alfalfa I’ve ever seen. He’s very consistent, year from year.
If I needed hay now, it’s about $7.50 per bale for timothy, alfalfa or alfalfa/orchard grass.
$2.25 for Tim/grass if I buy @ least 750 bales, I pick-up.
$5.00 for Alfalfa
$35 for rounds although didn’t use any this yr.
Different suppliers but all in Gettysburg area.
Dallas area…$10.75 for coast small bales (last couple months they have been
good sized) and $24.50 (just went up a little) for very large 3-string alfalfa from
way out west.
Bought some brome in Wichita last spring–$7.00. In the field prices were around
$4.00. Now the same place is asking $11.00.
Another $20 for the guys to deliver and stack it…priceless!
I pay $25 per round bale.
Craigslist has rounds listed at $100+. I see lots of square bales for sale for $10 each and 100 bale minimum. The hay is nothing spectacular. I don’t know who can afford this. I feel sorry for them if this is what they are paying.
Our normal pricing is $3-5/bale depending on quality. $25-45 for rounds. I have a feeling a lot of these people will have hay leftover this year. I don’t see the ads coming off of CL.
I’m paying around $36/bale for 150# bales of pure Montana Alfalfa, & between $7-$8/bale for approx. 60-65# bales of pure Timothy &/or Timothy/Orchard Grass.
Western NY- last spring I paid $4.00/bale of timothy/alfalfa (very little alfalfa). Bales weigh about 50 lbs though some lighter and some heavier. I’ve paid the same since starting with new hay farmer about 4 yrs ago. He said he tries not to raise the price on existing customers and so far he hasn’t. The hay is delivered and stacked.
I usually get orchard grass but he lost most of it last spring to rain. The horses are fine on either timothy or orchard.
I don’t feed round bales so I have no idea the cost around the area.

I pay $2.50/bale for fescue/grass hay from a friend, or $3.50/bale for slightly better hay from other suppliers. Bales weigh anywhere from 40# to 70# depending on the supplier.
Round bales - pay $20-$25/bale for 1500 pounds.
SoCal: $20/bale for alfalfa
