Heads up for Land Between the Lakes campers. . .

I don’t know if anyone has plans to travel/ride the LBL area in Kentucky any time this year, but I thought I would pass this along:

It’s always been kind of a scary, narrow bridge anyway, especially in a truck hauling a horse trailer, so hopefully they’ll rebuild it into something that doesn’t make you feel like you’re just 1" away from an accident the whole way across.

I spent a week at LBL/Wranglers last year and loved it. After all the mud and rain in southwestern Ohio, it was actually refreshing to see horses kicking up dust!

glad you enjoyed it. Several of us traveled to LBL from South Fla and were very disappointed in a couple things. The stalls were very small - maybe 8x8 and filled with 3-4 feet of crap! We each spent about 1.5 hours cleaning each stall and the black flies were horrendous. We founnd drowned mice in the water buckets…The manure bin was overflowing and right next to the barn. We spoke the the Manager and they finally came and emptied it out, so at least that helped somewhat.

We ended up moving the horses to tie-outs behind the cabin we rented and since they were in deep shade, the flies weren’t quite as bad.

One morning I woke up before the other 2 and decided to sit in my lounge chair and read. The black flies were so bad I had to hold the book with one hand, and my fly wisp with the other in constant motion to keep them off me…

The only good thing were the trails were very nice. We especially liked swimming them in Lake Barkley and riding them in the water at the Blue Hole. I have no complaints about the trails.

We left early and drove north to Bear Branch. I swear the horses let out huge sighs when we walked them into the nice airy barn - little to no flies and clean stalls with deep shavings. We loved riding in the Shawnee National Forest and found locals to guide us.

I sure hope LBL has improved as it was not a good experience for us. We were there June '01.

Wow - I guess a lot has changed at Wranglers since then - things were kept in very good condition throughout the campground while I was there.

Shawnee Illinois is one of my all-time favorites. . .we went a couple of years ago, and although the weather wasn’t very cooperative (chilly and rainy) it’s beautiful riding country.

Aaah, so that’s where this was http://www.kentucky.com/2012/01/27/2045822/kentucky-bridge-collapse.html .
I don’t get out trailriding half as much as I want.
