Headstall with Rope Loop Cheeks

I received a lovely old bridle as a gift when I first got my pony, and I get lots of compliments on it whenever I use it. My BO REALLY likes it and has asked where I got it from because she wants one, but since it was a gift, I have no clue where one might find one!

It’s fairly workmanlike, basic leather with simple buckles, straight browband, throatlatch. The unique part about it is the cheekpieces. They are loops of rope, so to attach the bit you run the loop end through the bit ring, slip the buckle end of the cheek through the loop, and pull tight. Makes swapping bits super easy, and it looks flattering on my little guy’s head.

Anyone know where one might find a similar bridle? Thanks!

I’ll look for a picture of it, gimme a minute.

I can’t answer but OMG, you certainly have a thing for rainbow-colored halters!

A friend buys alot of stuff at Half Circle Ranch . They make alot of rope and leather products. Maybe he can make you one or point you in the right direction?

It looks like a gag bridle. Some of them are made like that and then you loop onto rings to connect to the reins. Scroll about halfway down the page

Oops, I think AQHA4me knows the difference between a gag cheekpeice and cheekpeice! I retract! Yes, it looks like AQHA4me found your tack, but they attached the pieces to the bit rather than the gag rings. You’ll need to buy a short cheek piece to replicate your current bridle.

These gag bridles are meant to got THROUGH a gag bit. The gag bit sits on top of those rings (on top of the keepers) and the reins clip to those rings (note how small the rings in the link are compared to the OP’s pics, plus, the OP’s rings are attached to an actual bit, where the ones in your link are not). The OP is asking about rope that attaches to the actual bit, not just rings. but the OP might be able to detach these cheek pieces from the rings and attach them to her bit. They sure do look like what she posted in her pictures.[/QUOTE]

Or you can attach the rope to the rings of the bit instead of the rings for the reins

He halters are nothing compared to the rest of our rainbow gear  I like rainbow, and since Ponybutt is gayer than Freddie Mercury, it suits him. Haha!

The flat halter (with matching leadrope) were a christmas gift from one of my coaches, and I found the rope halter at the local feed store. I’ve seen similar ones on Chick’s Saddlery though, and that’s where I got my rainbow headstall and breastplate  I’m on the hunt for matching reins next. hehehe

Your pony is so effin cute. That is all.

Your little lady (and her daddy!!!) remind me of him! I’m loving following your blog!!

Some of our old race exercise bridles were leather with cheek pieces like that, so you can run the leather around the rings on the snaffles and back up thru a sort of keeper on the end, without needing to tie or screw any ends as you do with regular bridles.
