WV horsemen follow in FL footsteps to oppose decoupling.

Happy to see Ray Paulick is keeping an eye on PA. The new configuration of its regulatory boards is something of interest to all states.

And CA can’t overstep it’s regulatory power either.

The name of the ownership says a lot about this operation. Post It to me means take a look and toss it.

Recently, VA Governor Terry McAuliffe signed into law legalizing fantasy games. VA, while its VRC trashed horse racing and ultimately an entire industry, was the first to do so. Other states are not so quick to do the same. This lawsuit has been somewhat under the radar and might be of interest.

Oh dear, the PA state police are looking for the PHBPA treasurer because of some accounting irregularities. Wouldn’t be surprise he is hiding in IL with the IHBPA Ex. Director who is also involved in fumbling horsemen money.

Could be in VA seeking advice from the VHBPA ex. Director. A successful lawyer by trade who lead the trashing of Colonial Downs and its racing certainly might be a good pick as legal defense attorney for a HBPA official accused of thieving other horsemen.

Veterinary record keeping cause feud at CHRB.

The good news is that everyone finished the meeting uninjured and none needed to be euthanized.

Interesting comments from Dale Romans here

http://www.racingpost.com/news/horse-racing/dale-romans-usa-sick-romans-open-to-move-over-drugs-use/2054754/top/#newsArchiveTabs=last7DaysNews

Sounds like he is disillusioned with US racing and is mulling a move to Hong Kong.

Leading trainer Dale Romans has become so disillusioned with the use of drugs within the sport in America that he is open to moving his operation to Hong Kong.
Romans, who ran Keen Ice in last weekend’s Dubai World Cup, thinks the administering of medication has got out of hand in his home country.
Quoted in the South China Morning Post, Romans said: "I’m ready for an adventure and I’m so sick of what’s happened to the sport in the US. I’m done with it.
“I’m a horseman and I think races should be won by the better horseman, not something else.”
Romans has won a stack of big races during his career, and has previous experience of running horses in Hong Kong, as Breeders’ Cup Turf winner Little Mike competed in the Hong Kong Cup on his final start.
“I was very impressed with what I saw in Hong Kong when I was there and I know that, because the vet side of racing is so tightly controlled there, it’s the superior horseman who will succeed,” Romans added.
“They’ve never had an American trainer but if they want me, I’d love to train there.”

It wouldn’t hurt is the national horse racing leadership started to pay attention to Kentucky Downs. Definitely a business plan worth watching.

To have animal rights extremists representing any we do with animals is like having the Pope determine what abortion clinics need to qualify to stay open.

Who’s bright idea was that?

Sad to see it go

WV racing bleeding out as state legislature continues to be unspportive. MD gets the benefits. Ho hum, we Virginians are both going to get the reputation for our infinite charity. When it comes to racing we just keep giving (to MD.)

New economic indices out.

http://www.paulickreport.com/news/the-biz/economic-indicators-wagering-figures-decline-june-purses-race-days-increase/

One problem though. The headline should read “Wagering, purses, fields, race days increase.” Wagering, the key denominator, is declining because bettors and fans are more interested in feeding their families and being in a game they understand and enjoy.

Horse racing has to learn pretty soon that the game is about the fans not about the horsemen. I guess fashion and red carpets can be a big hit at the big meets but only for so long. It is little guy who shows up more often to lean on the rail.

What are different tracks across the country doing to help increase attendance? In my area there are a lot of fun festivals at the tracks, including activities for families. I think the “little guy” is more likely to show up when there are other activities going on to make it a fun destination for the entire family.

Some tracks are also doing education events where small groups get to tour the backside, learn about racing, etc. I think all these little efforts help on a local level.
