Puppy mill?
No, I don’t know it. But there is no doubt it is a puppy mill.

What other evidence would someone need? The stupid fake “healthy pups” name, the list of “designer mutts”, or the statement about “hybrid vigor?” Or maybe just the really bad website with wall after wall of text.
Funny, I don’t see anything about health testing on the website… from what exactly are they claiming their puppies are more “healthy” than other dogs? ETA: couldn’t help myself…asked about health testing on their FB page. Curious what response I will get?
Where’s the “barfing” emoticon?

My town in New Hampshire has a mailing list. Someone has announced that she is driving from New Hampshire to North Carolina to buy a puppy from this place. She was offering to pick up a puppy if anyone else wanted one, too.
Out of curiosity, I went to the web site and couldn’t believe all the “hybrid” breeds this guy is offering. Googled the address and what the hell are all those things out in the field? Are they pens for the dogs?

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone personally knew of this place.
The purchaser has been discouraged from doing this, but she is in love with some puppy there.
The place screams puppy mill to me.[/QUOTE]
Kind of like I am going to the bar, anybody want a beer? Like any puppy will do, I will just pick you up one. Sad.

Sad that there are a TON of puppy mills in NC! This is from a local site. It is from 2011 but ya think it has changed much.
From their Facebook page it looks like cute little puppies. There are a $hit load of puppy mills here in NC. They just rescued about 30 dogs from one near me last week.
Being in NC we’ve seen plenty of pups from there, but ironically not a single one is healthy. It’s the epitome of a puppy mill and yes I believe those are dog pens.
Here’s the response I got:
A good response to this question would be very time and labor intensive. Please call and I’ll be glad to discuss this and related issues with you. 336957360
Hmm…how to respond…
Well, no surprise; my post is gone. I wrote responded with something like “Why would it need to be time consuming? Do you conduct health checks on hips, eyes, elbows, patellas, etc.” They responded again with something like “if you don’t want to call, then buy your puppy somewhere else”
I responded that “I was asked by a friend to determine whether they were a puppy mill. So I went to their website and read about hybrid vigor and healthy pups, but didn’t see anything about health testing…and thought that was a reasonable question to ask publicly. But since they didn’t want to say, I guess the answer is no?”
I suppose I was a little snarky, but I was annoyed.
I saw that your posts have been removed. Of course, he wants only glowing reports on there. Anyway, it’s a done deal as I saw her post on there that she has made a deposit.
From this morning’s email list:
People, she didn’t ASK for recommendations on where to get a dog. She simply offered to pick up a puppy for anyone who would like one. Most reputable breeders live far away and it was nice of you to offer, xxxx. Enjoy your new puppy!
Every puppy has a potential person out there meant for them. It is definitely possible to find a quality dog in animal shelter/rescue. We found a beautiful 2 year old german short haired pointer in police animal control in South Windsor Connecticut two years ago whose person had died. Took over a month of searching on petfinder.com, but we found her, best dog we’ve ever had. I definitely recommend people exhaust themselves searching in the shelter/rescue sytem before considering a professional breeder.
It is not our place to tell her where she must get an animal nor tell her that it is wrong to do so. Congrats on the new puppy.
You’re driving to NC because all of the animal shelters between here and there are empty?
Thank you to those who make pet adoption their only option.
The owner of healthy pups brags that he has an A+ BBB rating.

Very rarely are there puppies available, other than purebred$, in the Northeast. I know many dog owners but not a single one that hasn’t had their pooch spayed or neutered. Unlike in the south, the vast majority of people up here consider intact dogs very uncool.
So, if someone doesn’t want an older pit cross with issues (that’s mostly what the shelters around here seem to have) or spend a ton of money on a purebred from a reputable breeder, they have to go down south to get pups or order them online from these southern puppy mills. And yeah, many have health issues.
Are we sure the ‘buyer’ in question isn’t just a shill for the puppy mill?
Yes, we are sure.
Many of those puppy mills, when you want to drive over to see them, they will “save you time” by bringing the dog closer, meet you in some gas station with the puppies for you to choose one, or if you already have chosen, take that one to you and have more in the car they are “taking to someone else”, but hope you may buy two.
They caught a fellow a few years ago that had ads in the newspapers for puppies all the time, italian greyhounds and other smaller breeds and when they caught up with him, he had stacks of crates in a dirty shed with half starving dogs.
I am not surprised they are now selling thru the internet, easier to make themselves sound like a “good breeder” with nice pictures.
There are tons of puppies on petfinder in NH and New England. BS.
We always asked clients where they got their puppies when they brought them in for the first visit. Then we made a note in the chart so if we had other clients ask for a recommendation we could look back in the nice dogs charts and see what breeder they were from.
It also didnt take long for notice that all the pups from healthypups.com were poorly bred with more health problems than even many BYBs or CraigsList dogs. So we did some digging. Horrible place, and I have yet to see an actual healthy well raised pup out of there.
It is really so bad when clients tell us they got a dog from there we actually recommend screening blood work for the breeds that commonly get shunts, a more comprehensive monitoring for breeds with common health issues and in every pup are far more stringent with deworming.
The only other puppy source that makes me cringe that much is labpups.com. Ugh. That place is a piece of work too

Many times, the dogs from the puppy mills cost just as much to purchase as the puppies from a breeder who health screens and otherwise tests their breeding stock. I’ve seen the receipts from the pet store.
