Heartbreaker CL ad, now Heartwarming Story: OldChestnutMare's Golden Retirement!

Thanks!

I got to thinking about this again on my way to the barn. I just can’t get over how amazing it is that a large group of people, most who have never met, pooled their resources to save an animal in need.

They say horse people are crazy…well, more people in this world need to be our kind of crazy.

she looks really happy and content (and gaining weight) in the new photo on FB… and she has friends!!!

If helping a horse in need is crazy, sign me up for the looney bin!

My trailer is standing by for the next one! That was one heartwarming experience! I would do it again in a skinny minute. Even my copilot who had just been told about her the day before, thanked me for including her in the experience. You just couldn’t help but be drawn in, there was such an overwhelming warm feeling being able to help this beautiful animal.

BNG - please do keep us updated on FB if Funny needs anything else…I just saw many of these posts today, and would LOVE to be part of the Funny Syndicate picnic if it should come to pass!

I just visited her facebook page before you posted, hoping for some new, sharp, clear pictures of her blossoming into her summer beauty.

Anyone in her neighborhood with a camera want to indulge the absentee syndicate AF owners by taking pics (lots) and uploading them?

I put up the last picture I got from Kim. It’s a cell phone picture, so fuzzy, but you can see she has shed out her old scraggly coat and as very happy! She is also starting to lose the sharp hip angles and gain some weight.

I will try to get out there in the next couple weeks if I can and take some good pics with Kim’s permission.

I just read all 41 pages…
Best 2 hours on the internet thus far

Wow! She looks just GREAT!

Everyone who chipped in and stepped up to the plate on this one has my sincere admiration; stuff like this occasionally restores my faith in the human race!

I can’t wait to see more progress photos! I want to see how much her feet have improved after a few farrier visits.

So, is she still being called Funny now? Soooo much better than Mama-horse! :dead:

She looks great  Love this happy ending!

Has anyone been in touch with the former owners?

Mara, I have kept the old owner informed as far as her progress and sent her a few pictures. They were very happy to know she landed in a good place and is happy!

Mods, this should be a nominee for the best threads. But don’t move it yet! I love the story, except that I’m going through a lot of handkerchiefs.

How did spring in a herd change the old lady

Did she fill out?
Did she muscle up?
Did she climb the rungs of success to boss mare of the herd?

Update and of course pics videos are even better.

Hi all,

Sorry for the lack of updates on FB. I am most likely the only person on earth that does not update or post on facebook. Anyhow, Funny is doing great. Eating all she can, playing in the pond, and alerting us at 5:30 on Sunday morning that breakfast is late. Her feet are at a normal angle and the weird diagonal crack across the front is slowly growing out. It looks like she was really sick maybe 6 months ago. There are very deep fever rings growing down. She is not a big fan of bugs, or the heat. She spends her day in the barn under her fan, the moves out with the herd after the sun goes down. Not a bad way to spend the day. She is very attached to the large gelding. He is the boss out there and she is sort of his side kick. I think with her diminished sight, she can hear him moving better than the others. Kind of her seeing eye horse. I will try to get some better pictures up this weekend. Thanks again for the support and kind words!

Booo-

I looked up our girl on http://www.allbreedpedigree.com/always+funny
There is no pic, no information and she is a syndicated mare with a lot of partial owners. That should be mentioned and let the rest of the world wonder what it was about a 29 y/o TB mare that made 67 people chip in to buy her.

Can you edit a horses background on allbreedped like a wiki?

Wonderful to hear the update about Funny and great that the big gelding has taken her under his wing.
