Oh man, this is unbearably sad… poor thing. They don’t like to see her “struggle” ??? Oh, dear. Hopefully someone kind will just go get her, and humanely put her down. The owners should just give her away for heaven’s sake. Buy the hay and feed just to give the owners something for their effort to re-home her. I swear.

Oh good Lord! They want to SELL a 35 year old mare for 200? Oh wait, they’ll come down to 100? And for an EXTRA 50.00 they’ll throw in a bale of hay and her feed!

I don’t get it, obviously at 35 she IS struggling, they can’t handle it or want to put her down, so lets get a little bit of money out of her while we can.

Rather than GIVING her to a good home and GIVING her hay and feed, lets SELL! WE can’t handle putting her down, so lets sell her and let SOMEONE else pay to put her down and pay to dispose.

So, let me get this straight.

1.) Don’t want to spend any money on a mare that has given 35 years to people.

2.) Want to get some money out of it, can’t give her and her feed away when we might find someone to give us money.

3.) She’s struggling, and we can’t stand to see that anymore, so we want someone ELSE to see her struggle and pay to put her down and dispose of her.

4.) We really don’t care about the mare, if we did, WE would put the old gal down or not try to squeeze some money out of a horse that doesn’t have any “value” to someone else that hasn’t owned her for many years.

Seriously? They try to sound like they are doing something GOOD for her. So they want someone to PAY to buy her, PAY to get her feed, PAY to put her down and PAY to dispose of her body. They want money, and they want out. How pathetic.

I swear if I was in the area and had the money and space I would get her and say “NO THANKS” to the feed and hay, tell them I am going to do what they can’t do and put her down. I would feed her for a while, give her love and see how bad she really was though first, see if she COULD be good in a different situation. But if bad, uncomfortable or in pain I would put her down.

I just sent the seller an email warning her of killer/slaughter buyers. I didn’t go so far as to say that they should put her down instead of hand her over to others but if I don’t hear back from seller I’ll send them another email.

Oh come on. The world is full of stupid people who wouldn’t even think about slaughter. They just think that the old horse fairy will swoop down & give grandma a great home so they won’t have to any more. Unfortunately these folks sound like they’re in that “stupid” group!
While recently shopping for a draft horse I encountered many people who never even considered that their low prices would encourage the meatman to pay them a visit.

The mare is alone in a field, no other horses, and apparently an OTTB. The owner says she’s not in pain, but they can’t afford hay and feed. :no::no::no::no:

She’s in Opal VA, 22712, which looking at a map, is between Culpeper and Warrenton.

Can anyone offer this mare a field or at least a humane end? :sadsmile:
