Heartbreaker CL ad, now Heartwarming Story: OldChestnutMare's Golden Retirement!

Got an email from Kim this afternoon that our mare, Funny, was put down today because of a series of strokes. Kim took care of our mare for years with just a monthly dribble from some of us owners.
Thank you Kim you were wonderful to take our mare and care for her. She had a wonderful retirement with you and the gelding she liked in her old age.
You were wonderful to our mare Kim!

I just sent Funny’s estate to Kim and Keith to go out to dinner and a champagne toast to Funny’s life. The mare was so happy to live there that she saved a little from the dribbles we all sent for 5 years so that she could repay Kim and Keith a little to thank them for helping her. TB mares are so great!

I hardly ever read this forum and just today read this thread for the first time. What a wonderful group of posters to help this mare. I wish I could have been one of them. RIP Funny.

For the past few pages I’ve been afraid to open this thread expecting that it would be the last news we would hear about our old chestnut mare.

We need more people like Kim/Keith and the COTHERS that pulled together to save her.
Funny was our starfish.

Bumped up at request of a Cother who wants to revisit this thread.
Thank you woofnwhinney for telling us about the craigslist ad originally or our mare would not have been saved.

Thanks to all who put so much into this. Kind of crummy day today for me, and coming here, it all falls into line.
Run fast, Funny.

Bumped up for spacytracy.

Awwww, so sorry Kim, I’m sure you miss her! But a MILLION THANKS to Kim and her family and all those who stepped up to help this mare get her well-earned retirement.

I know that this mare escaped the sad fate that finds all too many horses and had a safe, loving home with good care for her final years with thanks to many on COTH. It’s always hard to lose a good friend, but it’s a comfort to know that we did as best we could for them.

What started out as a heartbreaking ad on Craigslist turned out to be a sweet story and a happy life for Always Funny. Thank you one and all.

If anyone has access to the link on the article about her in the Chronicle I would love to see it.

I had the privilege of meeting her and trailering her to her forever home. It was an honor to be involved with this wonderful group of people that gave this lonely mare a very soft landing. I would do it again in a instant.

I want to personally thank everyone involved from the people that were hands on, to the ones that sent in the dribbles to support her and everyone that posted their support. It renews my faith in humanity.

Kimball you and the others are named in the article for the wonderful help you gave to Funny when you moved her to Kim and Keith’s farm. I opened my mailbox a few days before Christmas and there was the article on Funny. I’d thought it had been published earlier and that I’d missed it. I emailed Kim and she was in the feed store and said she could buy a copy there rather than my mailing her my copy.

If I can remember my old log in info to the magazine, I can post the link. Hectic holidays. Got to get ready for UGA game.

Those who helped Funny, those who did the physical labor and those who contributed any amount for her expenses and care, all were great. And of course Kim and Keith had 5 years of labor and expenses for Funny. Those 2 are the greatest.

Be sure to thank Kim and Keith for what they did.

Does anyone know what the date on the Chronicle issue is that has the article? I am trying to track one down.

I went back and read the whole thing again. Thank you to all who stepped up for this mare in one way or another. Thank you for being there for a lovely mare in need. I replay the video of her arrival and the welcoming committee in my mind. When the heart speaks, the heart listens. Thank you for listening.

Dec 25 is the issue. I will order some and distribute if the magazine still has them in stock.

Oh, I would love to have a copy! Please tell me how to send a reimbursement for one, if one is available. I did not find a way to just get one copy of the magazine without a year subscription, and it seemed that starting a subscription would not guarantee getting that issue (it said first issue would arrive in 3 weeks?).
