Heartbroken: Need stallion suggestion for KWPN mare
Amazing has Voltaire in his dam line and produces lovely hunter movement, chrome, and a wonderful brain. Ahna was great to work with too.
Good luck in your decision!
Amazing came to mind when you said Voltaire. His dam is line bred on Voltaire.

I can certainly 2nd this recommendation. I saw a Banderas colt at an inspection and he had one of the best canters I’ve ever seen on a foal. I was very impressed.

I would also consider Goodtimes. He is frozen, but it’s VERY good, VERY proven frozen. He doesn’t throw height, but he is full bodied (more important that actual height), throws fantastic temperaments, and his get are multi-talented…they can jump, do dressage, eventing…very athletic. Majestic Gaits carries his semen. He has been one of THE most popular and well-used sires in KWPN.

But I wonder why you are looking at that registry? You mare is a mix of different line, none of which are KWPN. so why that registry? If you open yourself up to ALL registries (and your mare will be eligible for MMB approval with all major WB registries) you will have many more choices.

I personally would go with a Capitol I lined stallion for her to go for the classic Cor de la Bryere- Capitol I niche (which produced Crown Affair for the U.S Hunter world.

Generally speaking, their rideability is excellent. The Abdullah in her pedigree and the fact that she has not been tested under saddle to prove her rideability would give me pause in breeding her to stallion whose lines might not produce the most rideable.

I would also look into Chaleon (by Calido I). Calido I’s will give a more fluid movement, refinement as well as typiness and rideability, although he is on the smaller side.

Also, how are her feet? I only ask because Voltaire and his sons require a mare with very correct front leg/hoof conformation. Voltaire himself had a crooked right front foot, which originally kept him from being approved as a youngster and he unfortunately has a tendency to transmit it through his offspring unless bred to a mare that throws very correct foals.

Until the Balou sons here are a little more proven as riding/mature horses, and your mare is a little more proven herself, I would suggest skipping a Balous son. They are lovely, don’t get me wrong, but Balou himself doesn’t have a good neck; he’s very cute in a beefcake QH or overgrown pony way. Short & stocky it  With Corland and Abdullah back there, I’d stack the deck in your favor for conformation and type, until you know what your mare throws.

I will throw an out of the box suggestion. I just had a la Marque filly born that I bred for a client. She is absolutely lovely. One of the prettiest foals I have had and a beautiful mover. I watched La marque quite a bit as a young horse through his career and always thought he could be a top hunter/derby horse himself. Very good mind, beautiful stallion, good with front legs and a ground covering elegant canter. Semen was great.

If you are going that route, Vallado (aka Praise) is available via fresh semen. He is by Now Or Never M and out of a Saros xx mare. Saros xx is the sire of Belisar, so very similar pedigree to Valentino. This cross is really known for improving jumping and their great temperaments and ride ability.

You could go with a Now or Never son, such as Valentino as well, as this combines both Voltaire and Nimmerdor, a pairing that has proven to be extremely successful. Valentino has super temperament and aptitude for jumping, a very good brain in his head, and good quality semen that works and gets mares pregnant. As a bonus, he picks up his good conformation and improved gaits via his Belisar damsire.

Valentino’s damline is exceptional. The mares in that pedigree are of VERY high regard.
Everything at Wild Turkey Farm where LaMarque stands is top class! We should all be so lucky as to live in a tack room at that farm - gees, is it beautiful!
