Heated Dog Bed?

Hello Everyone,

I was wondering if any of you have experience with a heated dog bed, and if so which one would you recommend?

I have a 4.5 year old Min Pin Mutt. I currently live in SE Virginia. He gets cold sometimes at night when he is sleeping in the kitchen. In the morning he sometimes shakes, hides in my lap under my blanket and his ears are cold. In Jan. we are moving to Minneapolis. It is going to get worse.

I was looking for some way to make him more comfortable.

TIA

The K&H Self-Warming Pad has been highly recommended to me by a woman with a service Chi and service Dobe. She lives in the midwest and uses them in her van if the dogs must wait there a few hours. Says her short-haired Chis and Dobe stay toasty even in low temps.

For $9, it’s worth a shot. I put one on my Christmas list :D.

The plug-in beds scare me, but I think some COTHers use them for their barn cats. I’m too paranoid for that. Snuggle Safe Heat Discs but you have to microwave it first…not sure how warm it would stay through the night.

Is your pup sleeping on the floor? I would get him off the floor and use an enclosed box/bed to retain his body heat.

I use a plug in bed in the garage for my barn/garage cat. I’ve been using the heat disc for my fox/mouse hound, but I think I’m going to get a plug in bed for him too. He sleeps up off the floor (he has a chair that is all his).

I use plug-in heated pads for the cats, and they just love them. I got all of mine from Cozy Winters. They have all kinds of pads and beds for dogs and cats. http://cozywinters.com/pets/
They also have an electric foot of the bed warmer that I use http://cozywinters.com/electric-blanket/. It’s wonderful on those cold winter nights when the bedroom in my old house gets down into the 50’s.

Bicoastal: He does not sleep on the floor. He has two options. One is a one of those collapsible wire cages with a fluffy saddle pad in it. Mostly he sleeps in his travel kennel. I think it is actually an old cat carrier with a blanket in it that I got at Goodwill. Trust me, he is a spoiled little dog. I wish I could let him have the run of the places, but he is a little destructive and get into things when he is not watched.

I did like the enclosed beds you have posted. I am worried about plugging in something. He does not really chew anything, but it still makes me worried.

I’ve been looking for a heated bed of some kind for my dog too. He sleeps inside, but he’s been having some health issues and I think he might feel better if he had something warm to curl up on. That bed seems cheap enough it’s worth a try!

These stay pretty warm through the night–they’re not toasty in the morning, but you can still feel that they’re warm. I used to stuff one inside a bed for a cat of mine who would get chilly in the night. They’re also pretty sturdy–a determined dog could probably chew it up, but they’d have to work at it.

I use this plug in kind (http://cozywinters.com/shop/kh-1000-1020.html) for my outside cats. They have one in both their cat houses.

I have one that is like a heating pad, that you insert into their bed( if you can, or underneath if you can’t) and it doesn’t get too hot for them to lie on. My dog seems to like it.

I tried the discs that you heat in the microwave and could never get them warm enough.
