I’m having trouble finding the heavy duty muck buckets. Where do you buy yours?
I use Fortiflex muck buckets. TSC carries them. They are very durable and last forever. My only complaint is the handles (the plastic rope) comes off - but this is probably because I tend to drag mine around.
The most durable muck buckets are made by Dan’s Saddlery. I still have one from 20 years ago – indestructable – but handles have been replaced. I’m not sure If Dan’s is still making them like they used to (same type of plastic?) but if so they are worth it.
All the Fortiflex ones I’ve had eventualy crack or split apart but gorilla tape keeps them going + new handles.
I got two muck buckets made by Tuff products. They have proven very “tuff” in real life! They have a bit of flex so I have had no cracking or splitting issues in cold weather, rough treatment. The rope handle did pull out, just like any other muck tub I have used. Replaces with new rope. I went to buy more but the farm store did not carry that brand any more.
I did a search for Tuff, found the maker. You have to go thru their big list of products, but the tubs are in there, as just tubs if I remember right. Price was high, a lot higher than what I paid several years ago, but probably offsets cost of buying cheaper tubs that break in cold or if struck sharply. It has been real cold here, no problems with the Tuff tubs. Lots of good testimonials about the tubs durability on that site. Sorry I can’t do a link with my tablet. I plan to order some more Tuff tubs in spring for the horse trailer use at competitions.
I also bought a number of their 5 gallon buckets when I got the tubs. I used those as my “winter” buckets. They are also flexible and very slippery inside. This let me hit the outside with rubber mallet and any ice came right out. Lots less work emptying those frozen buckets daily, than using my Fortiflex buckets. However with being softer, the Tuff buckets can get a little deformed with horse rubbing on them. So I just used them winters, when horses are stalled nights, lay down and sleep! Not playing around with buckets like summer daytime stalling when they don’t sleep much inside. Buckets did not crack or split with rough treatment to get the ice out. I have insulated bucket holders now, use straight sided buckets and have almost no ice! Big time saver emptying each day.
Dan’s are the toughest, but spendy. The ones from Horseman’s Pride are almost as good.
