Height Card

Admittedly I know zero about Western Breed shows.

Friend showed her mini at Buckskin World last year - apparently a new division for this show circuit.
Her friend - who was along to groom & support - was bent out of shape when a mini she believed exceeded the required height won a class.
This year she insists she will file a complaint if it happens again.
My questions:

1-are minis measured & issued a card by the organization?
If so, is that card permanent?

2-if the winner of a class is disputed, how likely is it the judge would change the standings and/or require disputed mini re-measured?

I am familiar with Hunter Ponies & horses & have been assured by someone who shows Hackney Ponies that a height card, as for Hunters, once issued is good for that year.
We both know there are people who cheat the system - pulling shoes, parking ponies out…

We’ve both told friend2 she is making too much fuss over a newly-minted division.
Also that at shows sometimes you are the pigeon, sometimes the statue

What say Breed Show mavens?

You need to find out what the Buckskin rules say. They should have a website, the rules should have been in the entry information packet. They are not that big an organization and you could just call to ask.

Anyway, what USEF or Hackney requires is just for them. Buckskin may do something different, it’s their deal and have no idea if there is a Mini organization that issues cards or not, If there is one, call them.

Been in many different breed and open shows. In All if them , the judge pins the class in front of him including at least one reserve, turns in the card and is done. Any disputes are handled via a protest procedure described in their rules ( which can differ from somebody else’s). If the protest is upheld, they go back to the judges signed card, spin the guilty number and everybody below that including the reserve moves up one, points are adjusted. Generally it takes a few weeks to collect the data. Guilty parties are expected to return prizes or money and generally will be fined and/or suspended for the violation.

Unfortunately, what I’m thinking here, is neither the Buckskin or the Mini organizations are going to claim responsibility for how this class was conducted if measurement cards were not required by either to show in the class plus the time to file a protest is long past.

Check the rules on both sides before you show again and find out who issues measuring cards for Minis and get one if you don’t have one already.

Years ago was involved with showing Pinto Ponies, they were measured at Pinto shows or by a vet who filled out the forms. They only had Pony or not at the time, just had to measure under 14.2. The Pinto card was not good for AHSA card but the AHSA card was good at a Pinto show. IIRC. Long time ago.

Thanks, @findeight
While I was waiting for someone on here to post, I looked up the showbill for the IBHA show in question.
Found the class listed as “Pony/Mini 56” or under"
Verified I was seeing the right Assn’s show by finding Friend #1 in the results.
So…
Friend #2 is trying to stir a pot that doesn’t exist.

The class was a First Ever for minis.
I expect if there are enough entries in future, they may separate Ponies from Minis.
Or not.
I show my 34" mini at Fair in a class designated Pony to Cart, against perfectly legal entries we could practically walk beneath!
Sometimes we place over them, sometimes not {shrugs}.

We have three miniatures… to be registered they cannot exceed 34 inches

We had a Morgan mare who was just under 14.2h… nearly ever time she was entered in a pony class at an open show she was challenged as she appear to be over 15h …always measured just under 14.2

Mini breed shows measure to the last hair in the mane, not withers height. So a mini can measure taller, using other criteria. ADS driving classes have moved some breed-measured animals from mini/VSE, to small pony division, because their wither height is above the mini/VSE limit. ADS uses the more common wither height for determining size of an equine.

Pretty nice of the Buckskin folks to make a pony class!! But the title of the class says who is eligable, anything horse under 56". Tell friend to keep quiet so the Class is not lost to competitors!! “Troublesome special folks,” just wreck things for everyone. Who wants argumentative people at a show?

The one who wants to file a complaint wasn’t showing?

Does she even own a buckskin mini where it would matter to her personally? What the hell is wrong with people? If you aren’t busy enough to mind your own business, you aren’t busy enough.

Read the breed rule book and the show rules.

 Wondering How & Why this got bumped.

Latecomers:
Pls read for comprehension my post #3
Issue was resolved waaaaay back in April.

@goodhors & @Arelle Great Minds thinking alike
In answer: No, does not own a buckskin OR a mini. And No, was not entered in this show.

As soon as I found the showbill, I told the Pot-Stirrer she didn’t have a leg to stand on.
“Troublesome special folk” indeed!

I must admit I did not check your original post date. Just saw the one from Kasey, with noting 2dogs started the thread. Glad it is resolved now. I dislike pot-stirrers making a situation from nothing.
