Does anyone know the 2020 helmet awareness dates? I’m in the market for a new helmet and I thought sales were around August-September 2019. If it’s coming right up, I’ll hold off and try to save 15-20%. ☺ï¸
That looks like a leftover from 2019, unfortunately. I’m also wondering when the sales will be (if there are any) this year. I messaged riders4helmets on their Facebook page but did not hear back.
These are 2019 dates. This is all I found with a google search. Does anyone here work at Dover and have the inside scoop for 2020?
I have worked at a small tack store for the last couple years and have signed our store up for helmet awareness day. However, both time I have done that by visiting riders4helmets.com and signed us up via their form. They have in the past been the organization that put on IHAD (International Helmet Awareness Day). Last I went onto that website, about a month ago, it was no longer a valid website and their Facebook page was also out of date. The last post on Facebook by R4H was made in November of 2019. In the past it has been in August or September, but I have personally seen no information about it this year.
Yes, I saw their website was down. I wonder if that means IHAD is no more. That would be a shame.
I sent a message to Greenhawk (largest Canadian equestrian retailer) to see if they knew anything. I’ll report back.
I need to replace my helmet so fingers crossed!
Ha you’re right, they sure are from 2019! Nailed it. That was some high quality Monday morning reading comprehension right there. I texted a barn mate who works at a local tack shop to see if she knows…
ETA she thinks it might be like the 12-13 but that’s not for sure. Would have to ask the store.
As someone who works at Greenhawk in Canada, I can tell you that we have zero idea about when helmet awareness day will be this year. Typically we only receive 2 weeks notice…
Stores are trying to figure out how to properly run IHAD and deal with current social distancing and other rules. Many stores are very busy for IHAD and are trying to determine how to deal with crowding issues. There is also the issue of stock levels as many stores are very low on helmets because of supply chain issues. They don’t want to offer the IHAD and not have stock on hand.
It really has nothing to do with the tack shops. There is 1 person who heads the whole day. This is her ‘gig’ to run and she keeps us all in the dark until the bitter end.
Ya Greenhawk’s home office got back to me and said they have no idea if or when it will be happening.
Just wanted to bump this thread up in case anyone didn’t see the new, short thread in Off Course.
IHAD is this weekend. I’ve seen a few retailers starting to post about it.
Picov’s is definitely participating.
Edited to add that Greenhawk is participating, 20% off most brands except for Samshield.
Didn’t look into American retailers.
Equus Now is for sure participating - starting now - and is a great small business to support. Phenomenal customer service.
Some retailers are starting today, the 9th, to allow for more time to process orders / social distancing.
The list of participating retailers is here: https://www.riders4helmets.com/international-helmet-awareness-day-participating-retailers/. There seems to have been some technical issues as retailers as many shops that ARE participating are not listed. If you do not see your local tack shop, call and ask if they are participating!
JODS is doing 15% off of custom Samshield helmets through this Sunday!
Couple things to know for IHAD 2020

If you are considering jumping to a MIPS helmet, now is a great time to do so. We have started an informative group with Brand Reps and a ton of info based on Facebook. www.facebook.com/groups/Mipshelmets

If you most definitely want to jump to the Mips OneK helmet, know this… Dover DOES NOT HAVE IT/ CANNOT order it* (* - at this time) So please head on over to State Line or some of the other great retailers that do have the OneK Mips in stock.
-
Non-Mips folks… I’m all for you having a helmet you love and adore, but please do consider this… Mips helmets are already at a low price point, this sale bring that even lower. Please consider what the added bit of PROVEN brain safety can help bring to you and your family in the long run. I have seen some really lovely helmets over the years, but none of the fashion would do much if I end up with a TBI in an ICU for weeks or months. Just saying.

Everyone, please remember to look into donating to the Virginia Tech Helmet Lab’s forthcoming study on equestrian helmets. They need donations to get it going and we should all want to know exactly how safe our helmets really are before we buy them!!! Right now you don’t know if your helmet passed the ASTM standard by a millimeter or a mile. And that does matter. Link to Donate is here: https://www.ehsi.net/
