Helmet Cleaning??

My practice helmet is so old and has so much sweat in the padding that it’s seriously starting to irritate the skin on my forehead. Any suggestions on cleaning the liner?

This is the forum where people ask for technical help with the board. You’ll want to ask this question in off course, maybe.

Moved it for you. Welcome to COTH @maringel

If it is older than five years, I wouldn’t bother to clean it. Replace it.

First, like cutter said, if it is older than 5 years, replace it.

Check and see if the liner can be removed - many helmets come with removable liners that can be laundered to clean them. If you replace your helmet look for one with a removable liner.

If the helmet isn’t that old, just funky, and the liner isn’t removable, your best bet is to wipe it down well with a cloth dampened with water, then allow to air dry.

I keep one of these in my helmet when not in use to keep it fresher:

Luke warm water, liquid dish soap. Wet the inside, wash padding with diluted soap, and rinse. (I use the spray nozzle of my laundry tap) Do what you can to minimize the wetting (do not dunk into a sink full of water) blot dry with a towel, air dry. Maybe I am just lucky, but so far, I have not damaged one with this care. I have done this to both middle of the road, and high end helmets
