Coolmedics helmet inserts? Stick the helmet in the freezer? Just survive??

I tried using a Coolmedics helmet insert and it did nothing to cool me down. If anything, it added to the sweat load. Hope someone else has a more helpful answer.
Don’t wear a black one in the summer 
Coming from a natural hothead, who sweats even in the depths of winter:
Tipperary (both their schooling and newer velvet versions). The velvet version is actually lighter and cooler than my schooling helmet.
I also have one of those neoprene visors that velcros around the helmet. It is very light and shades your face.
The mesh GPA may be cooler, I haven’t tried it, but the Tipp. is much less expensive.
Tippeary Sportage. Dark grey. AMAZINGLY cooler than my old plastic helmet. This one will never fade. The plastic one was white, turned yellow.
Cool is a number one priority in the hot humid south.
I have no tips on keeping a helmet cool, but swear by the Wicky stick-it helmet liners to at least keep the sweat out of my eyes!

I am lucky I have a “Cookies Cool Cap” insert (they dont make them any more) that I just place in there and it keeps me very very cool. I also wear one of those neck scarves that I put in the freezer between rides.

Cool medics … It does help, but not completely… You need air circulation for them to work, so it will only work if your helmet provides this… I do notice a difference if I use it though.
I’m one of those too, so perhaps that’s why the Cool Medics insert is not helpful for me.
I keep it REALLY simple - I dunk it in the water trough at my holds (at an endurance ride). Of course I only do this with my schooling helmet, NOT my velvety one, but it cools me down without adding any bulk.
I can also be seen sponging down my legs along with my horse’s neck and shoulder. Maybe it’s vaguely icky, but it works.
Why have they done away with the “Cookies Cool Cap”? I was searching on-line and couldn’t come up with anything… There isn’t anywhere to find them? :no:
Anyway, to the OP, I’ve never tried the Cool Medics helmet inserts, but can say that the Vest was useless.
It just felt like a heavy wet vest. Plus the gel was coming out of the seams on the very first ride. Not sure if this would happen with the helmet inserts.
French braid your hair, it helps keep it off your neck and stays flat on the head. I too, have been known to run a hose thru it when the opportunity arises.
Icy cold packs are your friend…that from experience.
Oh, if it’s really THAT hot, I just stick an ice cube or two up there and reaffix the helmet. As I used to do under my cowboy hat at horse shows in Texas in the summer in the 60s and 70s. Or just douse my head with cold water from a hose.
But actually my Troxel is pretty well ventilated, yes, I sweat, but I guess it doesn’t bother me, maybe a function of growing up in the Houston area!
I have a Tipperary Sportage in the Chocolate color. I have a Kool Vest and the cap insert and feel it really helps.
I live in southeast Texas on the coast in the swamp!! It is HOT and STEAMY here. My riding buddies and I all agree they make a HUGE difference. I like that I can take it out, rewet it and stick it back on my head! A Chilly Pad around the neck helps a bunch too!
