Helmet fit question

I just ordered a helmet from SmartPak and, while it fits pretty well, I’m not 100% sure.

Is it okay if it wiggles slightly side to side? The front and back are snug, but the sides are not snug. I wouldn’t say they are gapping, but they’re just not snug. If I tip my head side to side quickly, there is a bit of wiggle.

It’s really hard to say without seeing it. As a general rule, you don’t want much wiggle room. Does the helmet move when you move your head side to side? If the answer is yes, it’s not quite the right shape.

It sounds to me like it is a bit too round for your particular head.

I tried for years to order a helmet, but could never find one that fit me. I always had a dent in my forehead and yanked it off at the first possible second. I very much hate the mushroom look and I have a large head so it is even worse on me.

I was at the local tack shop for a big sale weekend, and tried on a bunch of helmets with the help of the store rep. She knew the brands and with a bit of trial and error I finally had a helmet that for the first time correctly and comfortably. To the point that I would sometimes forget to take it off for a bit when I got off the horse.

If you have the opportunity to go to a tack shop with a big selection, it is worth the expense to go there and get one - just don’t be that person who spends an hour of time with a store rep and then go buy online somewhere else for $50 in savings.

What helmet did you end up with? Your head shape sounds like it’s exactly like mine and I’ve never found a helmet that really fit before.

Don’t leave us hanging! What helmet did you wind up with?

Sorry, guys! I’ve been offline for the past 48 hours.

I ended up with a OneK Defender Long Oval. I have the large shell with the extra large liner.
