Helmet with slim straps that don't obscure side vision?

I’ve been trying on helmets and they all seem to have thick straps or a harness placed too far forward on the helmet that I can see in my peripheral vision. Modern helmets have forward straps like cycling helmets. For the record, I grew up in the age of a good elastic strap with no vision obstruction yet no mishaps either. Is there a helmet which doesn’t have a too-far-forward strap getting in the way of my side vision? Maybe I have a narrow face, but IRH, Ovation, Tuffrider, Tipperary I’ve tried all have the same forward-positioned chunky straps that get in my side eye too much (and yes, I tighten the straps). Annoyed they are designed like this as riders are not racing cyclists.

P.S. Now ordering the Charles Owen JR8 to try as straps look better placed in pics. Fingers crossed.

UPDATE: I’ve bought a Tipperary Royal wide brim and it’s fine. I did notice the Troxel straps were better placed, too!

Can you post a picture of your helmet on your head?
In the 35 years I have been riding in a helmet, I cannot say that I have ever had an issue with it blocking my vision.

I ride in the Tipperary Sportage. Straps are close to my ears, and snug, and well away from blocking my peripheral vision. So again, it would be nice to see how your straps on sitting on your head and how they are blocking view.

I just bought a Troxel Liberty and the straps aren’t noticeable. They are attached further back on the helmet and the chin strap is against my throat.

My previous was an Ovation Sync and the straps were more forward; in fact they touched my cheeks so much that I have seborrheic keratosis from the constant rubbing.

i have a Ovation schooling helmet s\and a Charles Owen show helmet. It took me a while but I loved these helmets. Helmet fitting is extremely annoying.

Thanks, but I sent the helmets back (three brands) that had the harness/straps issue otherwise I would post pics. My son had a Tipperary Sportage that was successful for him. I’ve now bought a Tipperary Royal that works!

Yes, I bought the Ovation Sync last week and when I was adjusting the straps at home noticed they were at the side of my face and in my side eye, so I returned it.

I noticed the Troxel straps were better placed, too. Glad you found the solution. So sorry about your seborrheic keratosis from the rubbing. The PU “leather” isn’t good for us either. Hope you get better fast.

Yes, it is! Glad you found two that worked!

Fantastic photo! Yes, I see the straps are in the right position for you!
