I really want to get my hair cut short but am not sure about how to get it up in a hair net and over my ears for the shows. If you have any suggestions please HELP me
Are you people saying that if there isn’t a “little hair over the ears” in hunter that you won’t “pin”? Good grief! Personally I think this trend got started when someone with ears that “stuck out” tried to tame them be pulling hair over them to help tuck them under their helmet! LOL! Having judged many a class myself, I have never thought while watching a horse and rider, “my god! her hair is NOT “over her ears”, no ribbon for YOU missy!” ROFLMAO! As long as it’s tidy, who cares??
ROTFLMAO!!! People try to stuff their hair up UNDER their helmets?! Yikes.
I am of the short hair crowd now, (love it) but had very long hair until 3 years ago. But, never stuffed it under the helmet.
What worked best for my thick, but slippery long hair was one of those bun things…a donut thingy that you wrap the hair around…(don’t ask, my mom did it, so I don’t know how), placed low (nape of the neck) then lots of bobby pins and a hair net. Much improvement over my first show…lol…what a mess!
btw, some responses I got after cutting off over 3 ft of hair:
It’s about time you cut that mop off.(Dad)
You are better looking now…(boyfriend that knew me back in high school)
OOh, sassy haircut! (coworkers)
Oh, I feel so much better with all that heavy hair gone, and cuter. (me, of course)
Maybe if it is black without too much lace
If you get your hair cut short enough on the sides and back along the neck (like mine is), you just plop your hat on your head and go. Plus, you never have “helmet hair.” I take my hat off and my hair looks great. One problem though, if you sweat (pardon me, “glow,”) a lot under your helmet on a hot day, there’s no hair to absorb the sweat and it will drip down your face and neck!
OK, so those show bow jobs are gauche, according to you fashion experts.
Please suggest a method of dealing with reasonably thick hair that is below waist length.
If I tried to fit it under a helmet, I would need one the size of a feed tub.

I feel so lucky to be 41 and too old to care.
My husband loves women with stylish, short hair. I wore my hair long when I was young (i.e., when I had no self-confidence and needed my hair to hide behind). Be bold, ladies! Wear your hair the way YOU like it and to hell with what anyone else thinks!
hey just thought I’d say the upside down metal clip works great!
Does anyone else see the marketing opportunity here?
We could make little wiglets that attach using the same snap apparatus** as the harness inside the helmet. That way you could just throw your hair up on your head inside your helmet any old way and VIOLA! Instant Trendy Looking Hair/Helmet Do!
I’m calling my patent attorney as soon as I log off.
**For approved helmets there would be an APPROVED design verifying that the hair used in the wiglet was truly from an approved H/J rider(preferably having medalled in their career), not from some test lab animals.

My hair is just no good. Check out this mop: http://www.geocities.com/erinbu/meboat.jpg
I HATE IT! And that’s it with long layers and thinned out. And I have a big head on top of it all…
Princess Leia Ears!
Kachoo… your hair is really cute!
Good I’m so happy! I find it so much easier and happy that others can use our little secret.
Too funny! Instead of a wiglet, why not staple-gun a squirrel tail(in the appropriate color of course) to each side of your head.

I know a girl who dyed her hair pink a few days before a medal finals… she wound up layering about 10 hairnets on over her ears and it looked ok.
if you did that w/bobby pins, it might work
My hair is about chin length and layered. I find it impossible to get my hair over my ears in my approved helmet, i am not really sure why…but in my unapproved heres my newly revised tried and true method:
- pull all the hair you can possibly grab into a low bun with a black or nuetral rubberband (its ok if its a little messy)
- pull one of the thinner hairnets over your whole head, bun and all.
3)Take those little snappy clips in black or brown (use silver for blonds) and clip up and stray hairs (there will always be a ton) - this is where it gets tricky: pull a little bit of hair out of the bun and over your ears, still under the hairnet
- place clips behind your ears to keep the hair over your ears a little tighter
- knot the thicker hairnet in the back and tuck it inside the hairnet, putting it on back to front
- use bobby pins to keep this net in place, and tuck up the bun and the nets underneath your harness laces.
- you might have to unlace and rety the laces in back to make sure everyhting is under if you have longer hair.
This is how i have been doing everyone at my barn’s hair for years! using hand lotion in a pinch really strays down wispy’s from a really curly head of hair on an especially breezy day…just a hint

ROTFLMAO!!!
By the way JumperEq, super cute hair. You are on a boat for crying out loud. How could your hair possibly look great? Don’t worry, from the same guy’s point of view, you are definetly a cutie.
Ugh, my hair is really really straight and fine and I have to be careful or it looks weird over my ears. Like, i\I’ll have about 1/2 inch at the top of my ears, a little gap, and some more hair until it reaches my earlobe. Stupid looking! But short of the pantyhose trick, I just have to keep at it since I’m somewhat anal about hairnets. I just do it this way, bobby pins fall out of my hair (only halfway kidding):
Take hair net, stretch it out, and put over head. Tuck up all loose hair and then fold hair TIGHTLY over ears, or my hair will get that weird disjointed look. Pull it back even tighter with scrunchie or hair tie, sometimes put another hairnet on, then put helmet on front to back. It works perfectly and it’s really easy.
