I have been on the search for the best helmet for my head shape. Any suggestions or preference of helmets for show jumping? I was kinda leaning towards Samshield or GPA
I’ve had good luck with the fit on a Charles Owen.
Welcome to the BB!
Try the Uvex. I find the Charles Owen exceptionally hot. Just not enough venting. The Uvex helmets have excellent vents and a very comfortable dial fit which is awesome for comfort. Plus allows you to put a hat underneath in the winter if it’s freezing.

I’ve found GPAs to fit very round. I had better luck with the Samshield with a particular liner, although I’ve ended up with the TraumaVoid and love it. Agree that CO are way too hot, although I haven’t tried their newest models.
One K
I’m a long oval and love my IRH helmets.
I’m a long oval and my favorites are GPAs (yes, the older models were very round, but I haven’t found that to be the case with my last several models), Samshields, and (drum roll) the Ovation dial-to-fit helmets (these are actually my favorite despite having several of the other two brands).
OneK Defender and IRH. Lots of airflow in those and easier on the wallet. The IRH 4G XLT (what I recently bought) looks just as flash as the Samshields but is far cheaper!
The only helmet I’ve found that works for my oval head is the Charles Owen V8 . Even the regular CO helmets are too round for me
It has a cutout in the padding in the front by the forehead that allows more room and also keeps you cool!
Long oval head also. IRH works, and for schooling, Tipperary Sportage with a bit of side padding is great - very cool in hot weather.
I have a weird/annoying head shape that I presume is at least in part long oval (forehead killed me for years in old helmets). I’ve had an AYR8 for years, but am interested in checking out other options. One feature that I’d really like is the thing where there is a gap in the front of the helmet ala Samshield. As Charles Owen is cheaper and (arguably) has a better track record in testing, I thought I’d look at the V8. OTTBay mentioned it above - does anyone else have experience/opinions? On the other hand, I’m also interested in the new MIPS technology (seems like a no-brainer…no pun planned!!). Experience/thoughts on the Trauma Void (either model) or the Charles Owen My PS? I like the idea of that brand + MIPS, but there aren’t even any reviews on the biggest online outlets! Thanks in advance.
I am in the long-oval group and have found Charles Owen to be the best. I LOVED my Wellington Pro, but that was very hot. I’ve had two of the V8s and really like them a lot–I purchased an AYR8 and V8 at the same time to compare and the V8 won. I do feel the air coming across my forehead nicely in the warmer weather.
I have this helmet and it is by far my favorite. Charles Owens fit well enough, the One K wasn’t bad, but the Uvex fits like a glove and the dial system is great too. It’s also not so hot.
I use a Uvex as well. I have an oval-shaped head.
Chipping in another vote for IRH helmets too! Very comfortable and (according to other people at least) they flatter my face as much as a helmet can.
