Helmets Tough

On that picture, I will bet that she saw she was coming in too close to the barrel, and was trying to get that leg out of the way in a hurry to keep from knocking it over. If you hit a barrel, you are out of the money.
You do realize that doesn’t make it safe, right?
There is very little about barrel racing or barrel horses or horses in general that is safe. I get that it is not pretty, and that they take chances that are not safe, but how is that different than eventers or stadium jumpers? It seems like you have an issue with Fallon Taylor, and I don’t understand it.
You don’t see how far back her lower leg is???
Regarding the 2nd photo, no, I don’t think her leg is excessively far back. And I don’t see a problem in her videos either.
In the 3rd pic I’d like to know how her hand ended up there of all places and what she thinks she is accomplishing by it. Watching the round live it looked like her arm had some sort of partial paralysis and she couldn’t control it. In the fourth pic we can see more bouncing, lower leg leaving the building, and her laying over the top of a horse that isn’t that big to begin with. Why can’t some barrel racers learn to get up out of the saddle and out the horse’s way?
Sure or takes a little leg strength but it isn’t that hard.
Yeah, her leg got a little behind in this photo. And yes, her hand is “up there”. But remember: BabyFlo is a small horse. When she’s collected up like that in the turn, it’s not hard to reach up her neck.

In the 4th picture, yup it looks like she’s sitting on her bum. But I think the point we all need to remember is this photograph is a moment in time. We don’t know what happened directly before the photograph or after it.

Almost everyone can be “captured” in a bad position. It’s a photograph. But it doesn’t tell the whole story.

Just because you get caught in a bad position on photo, doesn’t mean you are any less of a rider. Because Lisa sure is one of the best of them.

Even Sherry Cervi can get caught with her hand WAY out of position and incorrectly looking directly at the barrel

You can tear apart ANYONE on their barrel racing, based on a photograph that was taken.

Clearly the way that Fallon and BabyFlo click together works for them. Hate on her if you want, but it works for them.
Kudos on the helmet and fun colors but if she really wanted to improve aerodynamics shouldn’t Fallon corral some of that hair (and maybe some fringe)?
No, rodeo hair awesome!!! My own sweet mama, who could not grow long hair, said there were 2 kinds of hair, especially in the horse world…Big hair, or boy hair. Now, that being said, if one of my horses is bouncier than normal, I braid everyones hair tight so it does not bounce… Love her hair, not thrilled with the fringe…
So, Beau, you called Angelico out on credentials and Angelico responded. What about your wins? At what level?
My best horse I’ve had thus far ran about a 17.6 on a standard pattern, and at the biggest race I took him to (about 300 entries) ran near the top of the 2D. I know he was better than that as he found a new gear after that larger race. Unfortunately, I never got to see how good he could be, rest his soul.

Must have been a re-run from earlier this year.

Rodeo Houston runs around March of each year.

I’ve heard the same argument from the anti helmet crowd.

She isn’t my favorite but I don’t care about her enough to have an “issue” with her. I had simply stated that while I loved that the NFR winner was wearing a helmet, and the sport needed someone like that, I think it would have been better if it had been a different rider to do it.

It has nothing to do with catching her position off in just a few photos, those were just convenient and glaring examples. I referenced some of her “training” videos that anyone can easily look up on YouTube, they will make your head hurt to watch. I could barely stand to watch her NFR rounds, though her horse is amazing.

Disagreements aside I am very sorry to hear about your horse beau159. Sounds like he left some big shoes to fill for the next horses.

It must be different where I am. Barrel racers do try to improve their riding. A lot of the kids I know take lessons from a barrel racer with a dressage background, and you can bet she makes them ride correctly.
Also, I haven’t heard anyone make fun of someone wearing a helmet in probably at least 15 years, and we have quite a few helmet-wearing adults in addition to most of the kids.
