An weird factoid: very thin, light-colored britches do not keep UV out. My skin colors up and even burns right through them. (Kerritts Performance, tan color). (I now wear knee-length rider underwear under them since I don’t want the UV, and alternate with the black ones).
Same with shirts. Light colors will not screen from sun. Even shirts that advertise 35% protection - well, it’s only 35%. Darker colors absorb more UV, keeping it off your skin. White shirts are usually treated with something that absorbs UV. Pastels are the worst for sun-blocking.
