Ok, so I bought a saddle locally, and it’s awesome, I’ve been able to find out enough about it, that I’m good.
But the lady gave me a second older saddle. It’s beautiful, but smells STRONGLY of wood smoke. It must have been involved in a fire at some point, because the amount of smoke damage that I’ve removed already is… Intense.
There are no makers marks, serial numbers or anything else on this old beauty. It’s a 15.5 inch western, I believe it would be a “roper” but I’m new to saddlery.
Any advice or information that you can provide would be awesome.
I’m using Moneysworth and Best Saddle soap, and Neatsfoot oil.

Welcome to COTH! It’s a nice-looking saddle!
Could tell more about it with some side views of it. It looks like it has single rigging but I can’t really tell. Hard to tell about the horn and cantle, too, from this angle.
