So ![]('m one of those uneducated english folk trying (somewhat successfully) to ride western. I have a saddle I love for my gelding but its semi bars and will never be wide enough for wide load lard bottom qh mare. Can someone tell me what TYPE of saddle (this is where the uneducated comes into play) this is so I can try and look for another one? All western saddles look the same to me and I actually like this one :D. I can haul it outside and take better pics if needed. Please excuse the mess, I’m in the process of moving :o
Looks like either a trail or light ranch saddle. Nothing super distinctive about it.
I’m not sure what type of saddle it is but the brand name should be on the tab (under the saddle string below the horn). I can see printing there but can’t read it.
(Why can I open these Tiny pics once but not more than once? Had the same problem with a link to a Tiny pic from another thread last night).
I’ll second aktill’s opinion. Or maybe a barrel saddle? (Although the horn doesn’t look like a barrel horn IMO).
Maybe you can start looking at western saddles online (e.g., horsesaddleshop.com) to learn about the different types – round skirts like this one, square skirts, double rigging (e.g., roping saddles), different horns for different uses (roping, etc.), low cantle, high cantle, full QH bars, semi QH bars, all leather, synthetic … they’re just as varied as different types of English saddles but IMO easier to fit!

I do know what brand it is, the problem is I’ve never found out anything about said brand or any other saddles made by them. The tag says “J & B custom saddles SIKON”.
I just want 17 more of the exact same saddle so i can cuddle it forever and ever and ever I’ve sat in zillions of western saddles but this is the only one I’ve ever liked. Its like riding english in a western saddle almost?
Double post. Blame Chrome
Two suggestions,
-
Post a close up of the tag with the maker’s name.
-
Contact J&B Western Store www.jandbwesternstore.com the contact info is on the web site.
If you look close you can see a couple of similar saddles in the pic on the home page.

Excellent idea, thank you! I just figured they were two entirely separate entities.
[IMG]http://i67.tinypic.com/2d91zih.jpg) here’s the tag
The overall design of the saddle (rounded skirts, long leather tie straps, etc) make it appear to be a general trail riding type of saddle. However, the wrap on the horn and the horn style make it appear to possibly be a roping working type of saddle.
You should have a serial number somewhere on the saddle. If it’s not obvious, it can sometimes be hidden under the stirrup fender. I second the suggestion to call J&B and ask them.

I can’t find a number on there anywhere. The saddle itself, while it doesn’t necessarly show in the pictures, appears to be built to have the absolute shit beaten out of it, if that helps any? I emailed J & B and they did confirm that they have nothing to do with the saddles, but it was a good idea anyways
