Help! Adorable nameless kitten (pics)!

On Friday night we picked up our new kitten from a local rescue group. His mum was a feral that was trapped when the kittens were quite small and he has been fostered with a lovely couple. We met him (and about 12 others!) before Christmas and he was the one that spoke to both of us (DH even preferred him to the beautiful silver tabby girls – a colour he’s always wanted).

There’s just one problem – we can’t think of a name for him! (He came with a human name, which we don’t like, plus we don’t like human names for animals)

His traits:
Talkative – like really, really ridiculously talkative. Holds a conversation with you, gets extremely vocal if you leave the room
Friendly – he just loves people. This morning as I was making my breakfast he was weaving under my feet, crying up at me. He had food in his bowl, had used the litter tray – finally I picked him up and he immediately nestled in and started purring. He loves laps, cuddles and stroking. Has a super purr.
Brave – he’s quickly taken over the house and yesterday he happily played around our noisy vacuum cleaner.

He’s got lovely markings with a slightly asymmetrical face – black whisker dots on one side, white on the other. Some of his paw pads are pink and others are black. He has a wee black dot on his left heel. I think he’s going to be semi-fluffy.

Our catten, Mac, who is now 10mths old, was pretty suspicious to begin with. We did the closed door and scent swapping, then the door cracked open with a barrier (cat cages are great for this), then through the glass sliding door. Mac hissed and growled a few times at the beginning, but we have been making ‘kitten time’ fun and wonderful with chicken deliciousness and Da Bird. The kitten is brave (and somewhat foolhardy!) and seems unconcerned by Mac’s much bigger size. Now Mac seems very keen to play with him but we are taking it slowly.

Of course this thread would be no good without the obligatory cute photos, so here they are:

Plus some of Mac because he’s just so handsome:

OMG, so sweet, both of them. I am terrible at names – took me about a month to name one of my own! – but they are too cute! Kudos to you on rescuing and good luck!

What a handsome little man! Love his coloring–fabulous.

Our vocal tuxedo boy we adopted this summer was also nameless for a couple of weeks. He is very small, bold, talkative, cuddly and smart. He also rides on shoulders (and heads wearing hats!) and will walk on the treadmill with Mr. CC!!

We decided on Simon for his name. Simon Says, Simon Cowell…because our wee Simon has an opinion on everything, Simply Simon. Of course, that meant that his buddy, whom we adopted the same day is Theodore (Fatty McFatterson on his bad days). Since my horse was named Calvin, we nearly had a Simon, Alvin and Theodore!

Forest, because he looks just like a cat we had years ago named Forest. Regardless of what you name him, he is beautiful and adorable! Mac is precious too!

You have the prettiest cats!!! I just want to snuggle with the new one

I’ve found that most of our animals name themselves, if you give it time. For example, our most recent addition (kitteh) got the name Jinx, because I jinxed us by saying that we were. not. keeping. a third cat. Silly me

I think you should name his something big and ferocious, though.

Tosh as in macintosh (Mac n’ Tosh)

I’m the last one to ask.

Our current kitten is a little over 16 weeks old and is quite a character. She is a purebred Bombay, and is cute as heck.

She started with the name Kali (we have a god and goddess theme going on in the house). Then, we decided she looked like the Night Fury dragon from “How to Train Your Dragon”, and she got christened Toothless Kali. Finally, my Grandfather who is always an interesting character has been calling her Snowball.

So now we have Toothless Kali Snowball. Quite a name for a three pound kitten.

Your new guy is adorable. I have to meet them to name them, so again, I’m no help…

lol…gorgeous kitties…and like the tosh moniker to fit with mac…I have several “paired” kitties…ham n beans, mame n claude, ocscar n meyer…makes it a whole lot easier for calling them!

Tosh as in macintosh (Mac n’ Tosh) :D[/QUOTE]

Cute!

You could also name him Cheese, going along with the Mac n. I would never have thought of that myself, but one of our rescue’s dog foster named a pair of puppies Mac and Cheese last weekend. Your kitten is adorable, and looks much like a kitten my sister just adopted named Calvin, who is one of the best kittens ever.

Thanks for all the suggestions.

DH loves Tosh – exactly as in Mac’n’Tosh – but I’m not so sure.

I love Calvin – especially from Calvin & Hobbes cartoons.

The new guy is adorable – he is very snuggly when he’s not going at a million miles an hour. Mac is the one I constantly bury my hands in his fur though –his fur is just incredibly soft. And he loves to give head bumps and fully body rubs.

Question time:
They seem to be getting on very well and have had lots of face to face, supervised time now. There’s just one problem – the size difference. Mac really wants to wrestle with him (as in sit his big furry butt on him), or starts whapping him with a paw, or chases after him if the kitten runs after a toy - the kitten finds this a bit overwhelming and hisses at Mac. Mac then backs off, but clearly wants to play. The kitten is allowed to go right up to Mac, sniff him, steal toys off him, play with the amazing tail, but Mac would like to take things a step further and get physical.

Do we just let this carry on? Sometimes the kitten cowers down a bit and looks pretty worried – other times he bounces right back and runs after Mac.

Photo to show size difference

We have a VERY large Bombay male (14lbs) who was faced with our two new baby boys in July. Simon and Theodore were on their own vs. Gideon from the beginning. We did a slow intro, then let nature take its course. I only had to rescue Theo a couple of times when Giddy would sit on him and make him squeak. There was no bloodshed, and now we get the “kitty pile” on the bed, with all three boys sleeping in a mound.

Mac 'n Tosh/Cheese/Calvin will survive and thrive.

And, by gosh, Mac is the most gorgeous of cats!!

Ok, he’s now officially Tosh - it means ‘nonsense, rubbish’ - which is a lot of what he says!

wow, he does have that look in his eye… could be major trouble.

I sometimes wonder if something is wrong with me…cat cuteness makes me giddy. No name suggestions, but have fun with both of your gorgeous kids!
