Help! darn saddle....

Squeaks with boots! Neither new. Both conditioned with Leather New regularly. Cleaned with saddle soap. Boots not polished on inside.

Why squeaks? Help!

Mine does the same…

When my saddle is squeaky clean (emphasis on squeaky) it is obnoxiously loud. I find myself apologizing frequently on that first and second ride. So I wipe it down well but don’t use soap or conditioner too frequently. It make us all happier…

What saddle soap are you using?

I had the misfortune of applying old saddle-tite (it was mine…at home…about 4 years old and left in the weather) to one half chap before I discovered that it was not really “right”. It made my half chap so squeaky that I was afraid that it would spook my horse (who is a SAINT and not ordinarily spooky, if that gives you a clue as to how squeaky and how loud it was). It sounded like a herd of mice (herd?).

I’m guessing that glycerine soap has an unfortunate effect on leather like that.

I had a new pair of leathers that were obnoxiously loud! They were those wrapped ones with the nylon interior…changed leathers, lost the squeaking…just a thought…

When I had the zippers replaced in my boots the cobbler polished them . . . and they squeaked like crazy until the polish wore off.

You might take a little bit of saddle oil and put a light layer on the saddle and the boots. Do not soak the saddle or the boots with the oil.
If you do not have saddle oil then some olive oil on a soft cloth will do.
Lightly apply it so it stops the squeeks.
Kind regards, sadlmakr
