Help me choose a fan

We now have cross ties in the barn, and since the barn is up against a cliff, it’s almost subterranean. There’s not much air circulation back there. I’d like to buy a fan to keep the air moving and discourage flies, but I don’t want anything too powerful, just gentle air flow. I know any fan needs to be closed motor for safety reasons. All the ones on Amazon seem like they’d be too powerful for the space.

This is one I’m considering. It has lots of positive reviews from horse owners.

Any suggestions?

I found that the 18" was too big for my stalls so went with a 14" so my first reaction is the 18" might be more than you want or need. But maybe that one isn’t quite as powerful as the 18" I had (Durafan). I still have the 18" and we set it up in our aisle to push air from outside in when it cools down in the evening, and it moves a good bit of air. And is much louder than the 14" version. The fans I have are all Durafan from QC Supply, and I’ve been happy with both the fans and excellent customer service from QC.

Do check other sources. I often find Amazon prices higher than other vendors. Farm-Tec, Global, are a couple sources for the good, heavy fans.

Remember even sealed motor fans heat up. So dusting or wiping off surface dirt that builds up in barns, helps prevent fires. Same with cleaning off dusty light bulbs, them heating can cause dust to combust.

I adore, and the horses really adore, a fan I just got a couple weeks ago from Valley Vet: https://www.valleyvet.com/ct_detail.html?pgguid=431A0BC6-7B8F-4EE7-ADF6-309425103DFD

Not cheap, but I needed the enclosed motor and waterproof. Nicely built, heavy, very quiet. It is powerful, it is keeping a 13’x30 run in shed fly free. The boys spend most of the day parked in front of it.
