After lots of hard use last winter, my country boots are looking a little sad during their preseason inspection. Please tell me what I should be using on them to get/keep the dirt off, the oils in, and the water out. (Fingers crossed someone says “stuff you’ve already got in your tack-cleaning kit.”) Mine have bands of smooth leather and sueded leather, which I think complicates things.
For the leather you can clean with Murphy’s, then condition. I like Stubben’s Hamanol, or Black Rock.
I’d just use a suede brush on those bands.
Suede brush on the suede parts and be careful not to get conditioner on them.
The leather, I clean like I would any other leather, wipe the dirt off, if it’s really bad maybe saddle soap it, and then condition, usually w/Lexol. Works for me and I don’t use any premium brands or fancy balm and I’ve had one pair of Ariat country-style boots, mostly suede, since probably 2015. Granted mine aren’t consistently worn in barns especially lately but they’ve gotten pretty dirty when they’ve been in barns.
