Help me develop an eye with these CANTER cuties

There I was looking through CANTER and a couple of girls caught my eye. I would love to get an OTTB in the future and would like to improve my eye for conformation be able to read pedigrees better. I am currently riding jumpers but want to get in to eventing again once I bring my mare out to CO.

Here are the girls in question:

What I see is she looks balanced in the video, in the confo shot the photographer isn’t square to her making her look downhill. Her legs look correct and has a decent side hoof for her body though her hoof/pastern angles don’t look the same from front to back. In her hind end looks really strong but looks alittle long in the loin. Her neck has a good length but you cant see her throatlatch. The video she has a wonderful trot and seems to be pushing with her hindend well. I think she also has a lovely express as well. Pedigree wise she has Hail to Reason top and bottom which if I remember correctly lends itself good to sport. A ways back she also has Dr. Fager, In Reality, Turn to, and Alydar which are also found in alot of sport horses.

Girl #2

Now this girl really caught my eye. At first she looked like she was really long in the back, but when you look at the other side shot it wasn’t as bad. She looks like she has a lot of substance. She is well muscled for a 4yr old. Her pasterns are pretty up right. She looks a little downhill but when I draw a line from her elbow to her stifle the elbow is slightly higher. Deep heart girth and doesn’t look as wasp bellied as the grey. Legs look nice a straight from the side you can see a slight thickening in the tendon which looks like she bowed in the middle. Now the rear shot has me confused because I am not sure if what I am seeing is due to her standing funny or her actual confo. Her pedigree has me super excited. I haven’t seen Danzig this close and on the top and bottom before. She also has Blushing Groom, Buckpasser, Ribot, and In Reality. Her video was ok she didn’t seem to really step underneath her self and looked kind of ouchie in the hind end.

Now I fully expect COTHer to tell me that I am smoking something and got the conformation critques all wrong. Give it to me right now I have a lot of time on my hands with getting ready to leave AFG. I am here to be your dutiful student lol. My pick it Tru I don’t know why…hell I don’t even like bays but there is something that speaks to me.

Once again COTH I am here to learn so let me have it!!

Come on can anyone help me out?

 My pick is Audrey & grey is the last colour I’d choose (own one - no idea how that happened  ) - her photo does nothing for her, but her video is lovely - she’s willing, forward … she also looks as if she has a lot of growing to do.

The bay has much better photos but doesn’t show as well in the video.

Tru Tudor was discussed here: Canter CA cutie

The gray mare has Stop The Music, who is on the dam’s side of Mensa G and Madison Park.

Thanks Alto and Peaches…that’s one of the reasons why I asked because I don’t know a lot about TB pedigrees.

The bay mare photo s make you want to like her best but the video is useless

The grey mares photos really put you off but the video redeems her to #1 pick of the 2.

Pedigree wise I love Danzig for modern sports horses…

Unless the photos lie (I didn’t watch videos) the bay has very upright pasterns, which IMO is not good. But then I’m obsessed with pasterns.

New video on the Bay Mare post on the listing today.

A bit late to the party…

The bay mare has pretty upright pasterns behind and if you look, she’s slightly sickle-hocked. I’m also a bit wary of how she is standing in those pictures, with her hind legs splayed out. Is that how she stood up for the photo, does she just need a lot of strength work behind, or is she a bit sore? I’m leaning towards a combination of all of those. Really attractive in front of the withers and a bit dodgy behind them.

The grey filly IS downhill, quite a lot. Look at her elbow and her point of stifle as she trots by in the video–the stifle is way up there. She is also only 3 (and early 3 at that) so she may grow out of it. She looks generally immature all around–kind of like the photographer caught her in a growth spurt. Topline also looks a bit thin, which goes along with her being immature.

If you looked at the two of them in a year, the grey will probably look a lot nicer than the bay.
