Help me figure out my horse trailer's weight!

I have a 1976 Stidham 2 Horse bumper pull trailer with a small dressing/tackroom at the rounded front. I am trying to find the GVW and on the transfer papers it says 2800. However, would that be lbs. or kgs??? I have a number people interested in purchasing it, but for the life of me I cannot find anything on the trailer and the transfer papers just show the number, nothing else. Any ideas on what the dry weight of this vehicle would be???

Just find yourself a scale and have it weighed. Are there any gravel pits or such in your area? They are usually more than willing to let you weigh a vehicle for a small scale fee.

2800kg = 6173lbs.

6 thousand pounds seems a little heavy for an empty two horse bumper pull with a small dressing room, even if it is all steel construction. I am guessing that number is in pounds.

Most truck stops have a CAT Scale (brand name). It will cost you $25-$35 to get it done but it will be pretty accurate.

They will also tell you the weight of your truck, IIRC.

G.

our local truck stop charges $10.50 to weight

Also, the municipal landfill usually has a scale, since they charge by the ton.

et voila!
This is a list of all commercial vehicle inspection stations in British Columbia. (which would have vehicle scales) Use Ctrl-F and type in your city name, or cities close to you.

I’ll send you my invoice. :wink:

Dollars to donuts, that is pounds. It would have to be a very big heavy duty 2 horse BH to weigh over 6,ooo lbs. Most older 2 horse BP steel trailer weight 2-3,000 lbs.

Most cars/SUV weight between 3 and 6,000 lbs. The weight of my 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee is just under 4,000 lbs. Got a lot more ‘stuff’ in it than any 2 horse does. Like a big V-8 engine.

Anythig made in the US, as the Stidham was, would have its weight in pounds.

Yup, turns out it was 2800kg GVW… heavy steel trailer that sold very quickly :slight_smile:
