Help me find these breeches!

Please, oh wise COTHers, dig into your experiences and help a girl out.

I need some new breeches. Badly! I tried on a bunch at the local tack shop this weekend, and I want an amalgam of all of them - didn’t really like one pair enough to buy.

Here’s what I am looking for:

  • not low rise. I’m very tall, and low-rise on me = a free show for whoever’s watching and a lot more breeze than I’d like!
  • not 100% spandex. I like a little stretch, for sure, but I like structure even more.

The above two are my must-haves, below are “would be nice”
-Prefer the sock-bottom style to the velcro
-Prefer knee-patch to full seat, but will take what I can get
-Do not want to pay more than about $150 for a pair, would be pretty pleased to pay less than that
-Prefer the scratchier lycra-y material to the totally soft cotton (like the elation platinum material)

Oh, and the fun kicker is they’ve got to ship to Canada

I’m not sure of specific models, but look into Tuffrider - I prefer low-rise as I’m short-waisted, and their low-rise still comes up to my belly-button! I love them, despite that - every pair I’ve had has been comfy and long-lasting!

I don’t think they offer sock bottom but meet your other criteria.

ETA: I have only worn their full seats, which VTO has a ton of, but saw these KP listed on their site.

These run tall and sit high on the real waist in the back and a bit lower in front very durable, this company’s breeches fit taller riders well

Ohhh! I haven’t seen these yet. Agree they fit the tall people well - I am 5’9+ with a very long thigh and the Horze breeches have all fit me well (and wear like iron).

Yes they have something new every year… They wear like iron fit great are affordable , and look beautiful … I have sold several of the new ones ( the purple is very nice more of a mauve then purple ) and everyone loves them , caution , if your under 5’4 they will be down to your ankles, But check some of the childrens sizes if your short .

I have these in the full seat (in the green) and absolutely LOVE them! I have gotten so many compliments and they are so comfortable–structured fabric and a little higher rise (they don’t sit as high after a few washes–when I first tried them on they were really high, but now they sit at my belly button)=they are super flattering! I’ve only had them since Sep, but considering I ride in them several times a week, as I now hate all my other breeches (and they get washed that frequently too); they’ve held up quite well so far. The other colors are on my Christmas list (;

Ovation Celebrity Slim Secret Euroweave Front Zip Knee Patch Breeches. Have 2 pairs and love them.

Not sure if/where they’re available in Canada, but I’ll second the Ovation Euroweaves, and add a suggestion of the Romfh Lexingtons. Depending on how tall is “very tall” maybe the FITS Beka/Kates, but I’m fairly tall (5’10) and have trouble with the sock bottom peeking out the top of my boots.

“very tall” is 6 feet

Love all the suggestions, thanks, COTH hive mind!

If you want the Ovation breeches, Pleasant Ridge carries them (located in Brantford, ON, and they do ship across the country). They are nice and long in the leg. I’m 5’9" and take a tall (long waist) and the legs come down to my ankles. I do like them but find I wear the SmartPak Pipers more (they don’t ship to Canada) and I have an assortment of Elation breeches from GH (I’m guessing this is where you tried some on?).

Did you try on the Kerrits Crossover knee patch breeches? They have a nice mid-ride waist and very light fabric.

I would also suggest Ovation. I have a couple of pairs of the discontinued plaid Ovation full seats and they are by far my favorite breeches. So gutted they’re now discontinued, I actually ordered a second pair from a tack shop in Australia when I found out they were not available anymore and I am in the US! I haven’t tried any of their knee patch though because I prefer full seats.

I am 5’10" and I appreciate their higher rise in the back. I don’t have to hike up my breeches between picking out every hoof! They are also on the lycra-y side.

I have some breeches that I bought from Picovs at the Royal…I guess 3 years ago. I swear every time I see a thread like this I try to figure out a brand name on them or see if they are on their website. Because they are damn near perfect (wide waist, Euroseat, sock bottoms, stretch + structure, flattering, CHEAP). I don’t live close enough to the store to try in person, but if you do, it might be worth looking there.

Otherwise, I like my Horze too :). I’m 5’9" and they sit plenty long on me.

I third th Ovation Euro-weave. I have a 34" inseam and a non-existent waist, so finding breeches is a challenge. These fit great, and I want them in every color.

I love the Kerrits Crossover, but after several washes and air drying, they have shrunk vertically especially in the rise. I haven’t found Kerrits to be the very best choice for long legs.

Smartpak Pipers!!! They’re the best! I too am tall (5’9) and I’ve always had a hard time finding breeches that fit me because of it but the pipers fit me perfectly! Best part is they’re less than $100!!

DD wears Treadstep Rosas and adores them. She’s only 5’7" but has room to grow. They’re neither low nor high rise. I also like the ROMFH Lexingtons, although they’re not sock bottom.

I like Ovation breeches. I think Amazon ships to Canada, no? I ordered 4 different styles, bummed one was not Euro seat, but all fit perfectly … not low rise (I’m too old for that) but not Erkel high rise either.

I am going to send the non-Euro seat back, then shop ebay for the styles I like. I get most of my horse stuff on ebay and I often get fabulous deals from private sellers with more money than sense (got a brand new, PERFECT, Ariat show jacket for $39.00). Or those people who list stuff they never wore because they lost weight, which is not a problem that I am having lately :frowning:

My favorite is the Ovation Taylored breeches. I am 5’9" with a long femur and a long waist and they fit really well. I tried the Tredsteps, but the longs were not long enough in the rise (and I don’t mind low rise).
