Help me shop for - blaze orange

If you want to go with bells you might check into a sheep bell too; like a cowbell but smaller and easier on the ears. I put one on a dog sometimes when I’m walking them in thick woods b/c I can hear where they go; the sound carries nicely.

Buy fabric at Hobby Lobby and use the Blaze Orange on top

You could just search for “neck bells” they used to be, or maybe still are, used on carriage horses. They’re essentially sleigh bells you put around the horse’s neck. That’s only if you want to be quite audible

Otherwise “dog bells” or “horse bells” are sold on Amazon and it’s just a clip on bell or two.

I have a… thing… I bought while in Spain. I assume it slips over a piece of harness on a driving horse. It has 5 or 6 sleigh bells on it and it’s DEAFENING, and therefore doesn’t get brought out much haha. The leather work is just gorgeous though.

Would this work for a dressage pad?

Maybe! The billet loop looks small, but you could just put one through instead of both! Price is right too.

How about an orange helmet cover?

Do you have an orange vest or jacket for yourself? I’d also recommend a quarter sheet just for the broad expanse of ~ORANGE~ but if you really want to skip that–then get some broad expanses of orange on you instead. Strap goods and even a saddle pad can still be pretty easy to miss visually from a distance.

Lots of idiots out there with guns. Make it as easy as possible for them, lol. (No disrespect to the responsible hunters out there.)

That’s a good idea, anyone have a brand they like?

Agreed on lots of idiots out there with guns. I won’t bring my dog with me during hunting seasons because I’d go to jail if someone hurt her whether they meant to or not.

I have an Orvis blaze orange vest that I wear - but I love the helmet cover idea from @cayuse!

Awesome, and yeah, a helmet cover is a good idea!

Looks like there are plenty of options for bright orange breeches, too.

Maybe even some orange tempura paint on the rump of the horse? Just something to break up that expanse of “hey it’s a deer!” brown. :grimacing:

I could maybe try it, is there paint that can be brushed off easily? (can’t wash, its too cold!)

I just went to Amazon and typed in “orange riding helmet cover” and several popped up. Even an orange holographic one

Tempera/finger paint? I thought they were the same thing, but they’re both non toxic and easy to clean up, so maybe worth a shot?

Or a livestock marker? That won’t come off for awhile but also shouldn’t really transfer to other stuff?

I’ve never had a helmet cover, are some “better” than others? Stays on better or what have you?

I can give the finger paint a try - if nothing else, my alcohol/witchhazel/water mix should get it off I would think?

Big orange ribbons in her tail? Same on her mane. Thinking braided in with long streamers.

I only had one, it stayed on OK. I don’t remember what make it was though as it was about 10 years ago.

the brighter the better. I would not go with a muted orange in any case. the Hi Viz gear is also mildly reflective.

is about the only way I would head into a hunting zone. Probably with a few LED lights added to the outfit. Bells have the added bonus to chase deer off.

Just curious, why focus on orange? My experience of hi-viz is that which colour is most effective - orange, yellow, green or pink - does change over the seasons.

ETA like the idea of bells
