Help me with my boot crisis

I have a nice pair of Petrie boots that I sent out for repair a few weeks ago. I was told that the turnaround would be quick and that the repair was going to be simple. Long story short, the tack store that I handed my boots over to sent them to a cobbler, and the cobbler doesn’t want to do the repair. So he has my boots, lord knows when the store will get them back to get them to me and I have a competition memorial day weekend. So I think I need new boots.

I like my Petries and would buy another pair, but when I measure for new ones, the calf/height combination doesn’t exist in my size. And I have no idea what the size is on my other ones, nor can I look at them to check at the moment. The only boots that I know for sure will fit me are Ariat Heritage Contour Dress boots with a tall/full calf, but the leather seems really icky to me. Also, I am pretty sure that I can only order them through Ariat, and I don’t know what their customer service is like. I’m in a time crunch here, and I need a store that I know will stock the size and will ship fast like Dover or Smartpak.

Does anyone have any input? Is the new leather that Ariat is using as flimsy as it appears, or is it fine? Can anyone recommend cheap, new boots to hold me over until I can get mine back and send them to Woody’s in FL? I should have just sent them there in the first place.

Drive to wherever your boots are, get them back, and send them to Woody. Regardless of whether you have to buy other boots, get your old ones back now! Call the people at Dressage Extensions. They are pretty knowledgable, and can probably help you out.

I have them and like them. No- the leather isn’t custom quality but I would buy them again. I have a pair in brown and a dress boot. Because I need a tall boot that is tall and wid-ish(full).

Would I be okay showing once in the plain black Ariat V Sport boots? If I HAVE to buy new boots that I don’t need for showing long term, I’d rather have those.

As far as I can see from pictures, you’d be okay showing in those Ariat boots, period.

If you’re showing training or first, you can ride in paddock boots and half chaps, if that helps at all. The Ariat boots you’re considering are available on SmartPak. The reviews are good and, if they have your size in stock, you know they’ll arrive quickly. https://www.smartpakequine.com/pt/ariat-heritage-contour-dress-zip-tall-boot-12881

Dude, I freakin’ LOVE my V-Sports! I school in them 5x a week and they are awesome. I even have the ones with the blue tops and I would not hesitate to show in them at all because the blue is so dark, it is hardly noticeable. They’re comfortable and seem to be lasting and the leather is perfectly fine. I work part-time at a tack store and we call them the “traveling pants” of boots because they seem to fit everybody!

I ordered the V Sports. I’ve been eyeballing them for a long time anyway. I’m so excited that I momentarily forgot about my hostage Petries

I’ve shown in mine many times with never a comment from a judge. They don’t take a shine very well but they are so comfortable I really don’t care

I ride a horse with a roached mane in a Berry colored show coat, so my turnout is loud enough. I don’t need shiny boots.

Not to hijack your thread but does anyone know of a brown boot similar to the Mtn Horse Sovereign Field Boot in a dress boot. I have a huge calf and a limited budget but these would fit…Can you wear a field boot through second level? [h=1][/h]

I have had a pair of Mountain Horse field boots for 10 years, and I love them. They are comically short on my leg, but they are great boots. I wish they still made a dress boot.

What is your budget?

The Mountain Horse Sovereigns are amazing. You can wear a field boot in second level, and they do still have some dress boots left. Ariat makes a brown dress boot as well and so does Horze. http://www.centerlinestyle.com/tall-boots/

Can’tFindMyWhip my budget is 300.00 or less. I found the Sovereigns on sale for 269.00 I love the look and they will fit my fat calf. I think I will order me a pair and call it a combination mothers day and birthday present to myself. lol The Blonde & the Bay thanks for the link. Wish I could afford a pair of the DeNiro Raffaellos in brown. [h=4][/h]

“…the calf/height combination doesn’t exist in my size.” Oh, I so feel you friend! I have to have custom boots and it is pretty pricey as you can imagine. See if this makes you feel any better: Foot 6.5 DD/calf 16.5" (X Wide)/height - need 19" minimum.

Yeah - tiny feet on a long leg with a “well muscled” calf, LOL. Sigh…

What boot companies call extra wide is laughable and insulting. And I have a big foot. Still can’t get boots that aren’t custom.

You should avail yourself of the rule book. People here have, with the best intentions, given very bad advice regarding the rules.

From the rule book:

…dress code for all Dressage tests and classes through Fourth Level (see .5 below) is a short riding coat of conservative color, with tie, choker, stock tie or integrated stand-up collar, white or light-colored breeches or jodhpurs, boots or jodhpur boots, and protective headgear as defined in DR120.6 and in compliance with GR801. A cutaway coat (modified tailcoat) with short tails is permitted. Half chaps, gaiters and/or leggings are not allowed. Gloves of conservative color are recommended. Exception: Riders through First Level may wear half-chaps, gaiters or leggings in solid black or brown, without fringe, matching the color of their boots, and made of smooth leather or leather-like material.

You can wear field boots through 4th level.
