Help me with pony blanket fit-Need suggestions!

Hi, Im having trouble with blanket fit for a 14.2 Connemara pony mare. She’s a long pony but has a narrow build. Things I have tried:

66 Rambo original (10 years old maybe) and that was too short for her body-her buttcheeks stuck out and too snug in the shoulder.

69 Rambo original with leg arches (brand new) and its way too big in the body-the blanket hangs too low on her body and the belly straps are too loose-Im afraid to turn her out in it.

66 Rambo original with leg arches-same blanket as above-Way too small! Buttcheeks sticking out, belly sticking out. Straps too tight.

69 Amigo 1200D-too big all over.

Help! Maybe I need to get away from horseware products?

Maybe try a brand that has 2 inch increments instead of 3? She might fit just fine in a 68 or 70" traditional fitting blankets
My tiniest mare is a long and narrow build as well and she fits great into her Shedrow rainsheet 70".

Yes, you need to get away from Horsewear products.

I have a pony in that same odd size range that you do, 66-68". It’s hard to find blankets! He has narrow shoulders and an upright neck, which make the problem even more complex.

He does best in Weatherbeetas. I also just got him a Tuffrider blanket, which is not a brand I usually look at for blankets but it was $30 brand new, which fits him nicely as well, although it’s a little big in the neck. I also had one of the Rider’s International sheets for him for a bit as well (before his pasture mate kindly destroyed it), and I was happy with how that fit him.

I had an Amigo 600D sheet for him (the one that comes in four or five different colors every season) and it was just…off. It was big in some areas, but then didn’t quite cover his butt, but also was a dress on him…

My 14.1 pony-ishmare who has a narrow dainty build fits PERFECT into a 70" “Challenger” brand blanket & sheet. Not a name brand but has held up well for three winters, they’re CHEAP and color variety is VAST all over Ebay.

She fits funky into a 69" or 72" name-brand blanket but I am VERY happy with teh 70" Challengers. Recommend through and through!

My larges fit perfectly in their 68-70" Centaurs.

Stay away from Schneiders t/o sheet. It could be the style I tried, but the neck opening was enormous, it hung below his knees, and the belly straps were about a foot too long. This was a 66", the correct size I measured for my 14.2 arab gelding. It also lost its waterproofing at 2 yrs. old.

His new cheap Horseware t/o sheet (I think it’s a Bravo), looks great in the neck and butt, but seems a bit tight by his belly. Dunno if his blanket liner, a Rhino, will fit under it.

My Connemara fits in his weatherbeeta pretty well! He’s narrow and long but he’s a large Connemara. I think it’s the weatherbeeta freestyle.

I have a 14.2 narrow high necked, big withers, long body. He was hard to fit too - I ended up with the Amigo - and then had it shortened by a local seamstress. It now fits beautifully and is on year 8…

My large pony is in a 74 to 75 range @_@

How are you guys fitting them in anything smaller?

Schneiders VTEK w/ belly band fit my narrow, 13.3hh pony pretty well. The 68" is a good fit, though the neck is a little big. The adjusta-neck feature fixes that, but it makes her cranky. So I make do with leaving it as it came, not snugged up at all. It does run small in the length, since she’s 66". Maybe the 70" would work for your mare?

I just got mine, so I can’t comment too much on long term durability. It is the only 68" blanket I have where the belly band is actually proportional. The others I have are way too big.

I have a 14 hand pony who is wide-barreled and short bodied (the complete opposite of yours). He fits into a 68 Baker turnout sheet, a 68 Dover International Supreme turnout sheet and blanket and a 69 Amigo turnout. The moral of the story is you have to try a whole bunch. The trainer I got him from said he wears a 64. Ha. I guessed a 66. Wrong. He swims in a 70. He’s my first pony – much harder to fit than any of the horses I’ve had. He already has a larger wardrobe than the rest of my horses combined!!!

I tried a 69" Rhino pony cut Wug my long backed 13.3h pony, and found it to be very slim and short in the body, which surprised me especially because her Amigo 1200D sheet borders on being too deep. So the Rhino might be perfect for you.

Yah…

My 13hh has a 63 Saxon…it’s a teeny bit snug, but he’s plump and he never gets rubs.
A 66 Amigo is a wee bit long, but certainly not huge on him.

My 14.2 wears a 72 in any of the Horseware products.

It’s about the length of the back, size of the hip, etc, more than the height.

My Arab cross was 14.3-ish and fit very nicely in a 66. She was very short backed–it was a serious consideration with saddle fitting and the pads I could use under the saddle.

Can anyone help?

I have a 14h pony that has a barrel of a belly. I measured him at a 69" so I bought a 69" Rhino Wug which is too snug for him from chest to butt, the height of the blanket fits perfect. So I went out and bought a 72" sheet off a friend and it just hangs at his knees. I really hate to let him out in the field with that hanging so low.

Can anyone recommend a blanket for a longer body pony with short legs LOL ??
