Help Need a Saddle Fitter that does Consignment

Looking for a saddle fitter that will take my very nice well made great condition saddle on consignment - prefer in Northeastern US and with references. I had great success for the last saddle I sold. Sadly, the person who sold me the saddle is no longer available.

A local well known company is now taking 25% and who knows how long it will sit there with so many options. Oiy… Thank you.

I haven’t found anyone that consigns for less and many are more just as a reference point. I believe highline tack was 35% last year when I sold my saddle with them.

I too have found all consignment shops charging 25%. Additionally, I’ve found it impossible to consign an older saddle regardless of condition. I hope you have better luck!

Thank you for the feedback. Very much appreciated. It has been a while since I sold my last saddle. The saddle fitter approach did get the saddle out and about being looked at and tested vs sitting in a store waiting for the right person to come along.

If it’s a brand name saddle, I’ve had the best luck going with a store with a really good consignment website. Give it a relatively low price. People are looking for bargains if they have to factor in shipping.

Aiken Tack Exchange has sold 2 dressage and 3 jump saddles for me very quickly at a good price.

I don’t know how much they charge, but Dutchess has a lot of consignment turnover: https://dutchessbridlesaddle.com/consignments/

Thank you I will check them out.

Thank you!

I just looked at the Dutchess site and they seem to say that they take 35% on the consignment price. Ouch.

I used Pelham Saddlery to sell a saddle a year and a half ago. The saddle sold within two months and it wasn’t a big name or particularly “hot” brand. It was priced to sell. So I had a very good experience.

One of my jump saddles sat at Pelham Saddlery for 13 months. I sold in less than 2 months at Aiken Tack Exchange.
My dressage saddle sat at Liberty Saddlery for 11 months. I sold in 3 months at Aiken Tack. Plus they charged me a $75 restocking fee to PICK IT UP. It was not a shipping fee. Read the fine print. It could have sat there 10 years and there was a re-stocking fee. My bad for not reading the fine print,

Wow a restocking fee for picking up your saddle. That’s ridiculous! I will look at Aiken. Thank you for the information. I have a nice dressage saddle that I want to sell but no I don’t want to sell it for a significant loss just to sell it.

I don’t have a dog in this fight. But I don’t think that Pelham has a “restocking fee” if you decide to pull your saddle if/when it doesn’t sell. I’ve just pored over their policies and haven’t seen it, and I certainly didn’t see it when I sighed the policy agreement last year.

Several years ago (six I think?) I had sent Pelham a saddle on consignment and it hadn’t sold after 7 or 8 months. I got it back from them and I only had to pay return shipping, no “restocking fee.”

I then sent the saddle to another store and they took another 8 months to sell it at 10% less than it was listed. And I paid a 25% consignment fee. The saddle was a County Eventer.

So I think there’s a lot of luck involved in selling a used saddle no matter what method you try.

Pelham Saddlery does not have a restocking fee. It was Liberty Saddlery that charged me.

What brand is it? I usually check with some of the dressage barns in my area to see if they are interested in trying it!

I know you love them & express it quite often. Not everyone has had the same “great” experience with Aiken Tack Exchange. I had to hunt them down for my funds, every time. They have NEVER sent my funds automatically, after selling one of my saddles.

Highline tack didn’t ever needed chasing down for funds or communication.

Sorry if I misread your post!

There are images and info on two regional dressage sites. Thank you for passing along.

I’ve had the best luck using reps for the brand of the saddle. Custom Saddlery and County reps have both taken my used saddles and sold them relatively quickly and at better than expected prices.

Me too. Unfortunately, that does not seem to be an option this time around.
