Help! Need a Specific Size Metal Shed and Can't Find

Hi, I’m striking out trying to find just the right prefab metal storage shed for hay storage. I need something 10’ x 12’ x 14’ high so I can put it in without a permit. There many 10’ x 12’ options, but none seem to be very tall. Does anyone know a source that sells these prefab? I’m in SoCal, so local would be ideal.

Could you pour a concrete footer and anchor it in, to get the extra height? That’s a weird size.

Yes, a concrete footer is a good suggestion for gaining a few extra feet. I’m just not sure if the expense will be worth it.

The extra height, although odd, would really help. My other choice is to do two of the smaller sheds (they’re usually 10’ x 12’ x 8’ or so) to get the amount of storage I need. I may just need to resign myself to getting more frequent hay deliveries.

Have a look at these people:

http://www.eq-winecovers.com/ in Paso Robles.

Their standard is an 18’ x 18’ cover but you can possibly put the support posts in on a 10’ x 12’ footprint. These can be quite tall, and they can possibly also quickly hook you up with smaller roof panels if the extra overhang is a no-go.

You’d need to add siding if you want siding, but it’s easy to screw on to the very beefy posts. Note: you’ll have to dig holes to set the posts in concrete, of course, which will be true for anything of that form factor.

I have one of their standard 18 x18 kits and put it up myself and maybe it’s been here 10-15 years? My neighbor set up theirs with walls. Anyway, I was very pleased with their product.

Also consider contacting local metal fabrication shops that build shade structures, covered parking, sheds etc. I had a hay shed (3-sided; in a hot climate at the time) custom made to accommodate the local hay delivery method (stacks delivered by a “squeeze” that required a 14’ tall roof for clearance).

Anywho, the point is that the guy was able to make just what I wanted and deliver (and set it up) locally. Doesn’t need to be an eq specialist type of business–just know what you want and they can build it. Not cheap, though, so if you can find it prefab that would be the way to go.

What about a carport kit, and add sides?

I expect you have considered how tall and skinny that shed will be?
That will look odd, such a narrow and tall structure, sticking out there like a sore thumb?
Could you at least make it 14" wide to at least match the height?
That tall and skinny shed will catch a lot of wind, be sure to anchor it very, very well.
With it so high how will you keep rain out from the front, will it be completely enclosed?

Most any shed place here can make whatever you want in any size or model.
Many commercial warehouse/barn builders can do that for you or know who can.

Yeah that’s really tall for a prefab little shed, I highly doubt you’ll find one. I’d go for a choose-your-size metal garage from someone like Alan’s Carports for Sale – Metal & Custom - Alan’s Factory

Or Viking

Or

Thanks for all the great suggestions!
