I know I know… I should know where to find these things…
I have looked at all my normal sources but they seem to stop at 5.5"
Anyone have a good source for a D ring waterford in a 6"???
Thanks in advance.

Emily- maybe you could try Middleburg Tack Exchange. They always have unqiue, hard to find items. If you do a google search you’ll be able to find the number. Good luck!
There is always ebay UK, as well - LOTS of larger bits and tack items go across there, as they do ride the big heavy hunter types a lot. If you have an ebay account here, it will translate well - I have had some wonderful finds using English ebay.

Best of luck finding your bit!

Dominion Saddlery in Chantilly carries them – I purchased an egg-butt Waterford from them, and noticed they also had the D ring Waterfords as well. However, you may want to call to see if they have them in the size you need.
Been there did that…
Dominion no longer exists…as Dominion. Dover bought them out. But still they only go up to a 5.5" waterford.
MTE I called first thing, they had sold their only Waterford in stock and it was a 5.25 " bit.
Let me help you all out a bit with the list of who I have already checked with…
Dover
Bit of Britain
Louisville Saddle Shop
Rick’s Heritage
Maryland Saddlery
Unionville Tack
Horse Country
Drafttack.com (* has a full cheek, and a 3 ring. But these are not diserable)
Horsetackco.com
VTO
shop4Bits.com
Derbyhouse.co.uk (* has it but trying to find it stateside first)
Bits and Barter
Tacktrader.com
And a few other UK sites. Again trying to find it stateside before we spend lots to ship it here.
Hope this list helps!!

Have you tried to see if any of those tack shops could special order the size for you? I know I’ve special ordered girths from Dover and a few other things from my local place
Yes we have spoken to them about special ordering, but since I can purchase it online from the UK sites, it hasn’t been a path explored much. (Since the resolution is right across the pond)

Nm…sorry, I didn’t read the earlier post well enough!
Sorry… we’re not looking for a full cheek or a 3 ring. So in this case they don’t have what we’re looking for.

My horse also needs a 6" bit, and I’ve only been able to find them on Ebay. There is not a lot of selection when it comes to 6" models! I have not come across a waterford, though. Good luck!
Edited to ad: this is the ebay store I’ve used, I didn’t see a waterford right now but keep an eye out. They carry lots of big bits. They even have a 7" full cheek french link copper slow twist. I’ve never seen that before! So keep an eye on them for different bits.
Thanks for the link Saultgirl. I will keep it saved and watch for any new bits to pop up!!

LOL I don’t think we’re gonna head towards destroying a good full cheek!!
But my god, 60 pounds for a bit??? The same one is for sale on Drafttack for $23!!!
Wow. Never imagined this would be so tough.

Bartville Harness Shop has two 5 1/2 Dee or Eggbutt on the rack this afternoon. They might measure bigger.
I’ll keep searching but this is also a UK site that has it…
http://www.thesaddleryshop.co.uk/P/Loose_ring_waterford_snaffle_waterford_horse_bit_waterford_bit-(396).aspx
(loose ring though, not sure if you like those)
call horsemens outlet in NJ 908 238.1200 im pretty sure they should have it in stock
=-)
From what I understand a Waterford needs to be 1/2" larger than the other bits to work properly. So a Waterford 5 1/2 would fit a horse who normally takes a 5" bit.
Look around for the Dewsbury Waterford. I think a tack shop in Jupiter, Florida carried them, but I’m not sure Dewsbury is still in business–and their Waterfords, while the best on the market, were very pricey.
Found a Dewsbury 5 3/4 on ebay here:

Found it.

But they are O rings. Dewsbury is famous for their Waterford Baucher. Also very pricey.
