Help picking a business name

Thank you guys for all your help!

Everglen will be easier for others to spell if they are trying to send someone your way I think. Just my quick thought when seeing your 2 choices.

I agree that Everglen is easier for the consumer

That depends, will Idris Elba be there??
J/k. I wouldn’t say either name is weird, but they also don’t tell me what the business is.

Yeah, I wasn’t sure how to say that I teach lessons and training horses, and hope to add dental, hoofcare, massage, boarding etc in the future. If you have any suggestions I would love to hear them! I liked Nature’s Way Equine Services but I think it’s a bit to popular.

It can be helpful to think about:

  • who is your target market (now and in the future)
  • how do you expect them to find you
  • what kind of marketing do you plan to do
  • confusion with other businesses
  • what could happen in the future (like new location, pivot in focus, your own name change, selling the business)

Is the name just a handle to find you or is it meant to be something that evokes what you do?

Can people figure out how to spell it and find it if they literally hear it word-of-mouth?

Also, check out available domain names for a website and search your name on the web to see what comes up - in terms of confusing names as well as potentially bad confusion (like a particular search currently brings up something you very much would not associated with your business).

These are all just generic considerations and I haven’t applied them to either of the names you are contemplating!

Those are definitely things I’m considering. I think it’s going to be more of a handle for me, and to make myself seem more professional as all my advertisement and whatnot will include my name and the list of services. The spelling one of why I’m not just using my name because it is really hard to spell and pronounce.

I would also search the trademark database to make sure their would be no potential conflicts

Everglen sounds more tranquil and relaxing.

I hope you don’t mind a couple of off the wall ideas. The portfolio you’re considering is quite wide. How about Broadglen or Broad River. I prefer the latter because of the flow image. And a lovely mare I knew back in the day had a name you might like Seven Rivers. (change the number to however many rivers there are around you in you want.)

Everglen;

whatever name is chosen run it through a language check to make sure it does not mean something completely different in another language such as when General Motors selected the name for the Chevy Nova: In Spanish-speaking countries, “no va” translates to “doesn’t go,”

Unless it has a specific reference to you or your area, I’d ditch Idris.
Like @Training_Cupid said, the actor comes to mind.
As long as Everglen isn’t already in use, that would be my choice.

@clanter You reminded me of a problem Gerber had marketing their baby food in Africa.
People mistook the smiling baby on the label to indicate the contents

Everglen is easier to spell, easier to pronounce, and will appear higher in alphabetical listings (not as important as in the phone book days, but still a consideration for online lists or directories). The name makes me picture a serene wooded area… the name Idris means nothing to me aside from the actor which makes it kind of a weird name for a horse related enterprise.

If you’re planning to do a website, check to see if the domain name and what variations are available. And ditto on a trademark search.

Lol yeah that’s a big variety! On hearing “equine services” I thought maybe body work, or possibly something like feeding or exercising horses while the owner is gone. To me it does not sound oike boarding or training, so if those are thd services you are starting with I would probably name it Everglen Stables.
Around here Nature’s Way is a big company that sells vitamins and homeopathic remedies so I wouldn’t pick that.

If you are planning to have such a broad range of services, I would choose a name that you can then add the specific service to, and have a few “operating as” names.

For example, have “Everglen Equine” as your base, legal name, and then, Everglen Equine Massage, Everglen Equine Training, and so on, as operating names.
