I was hoping you all could help me price a foal. It is a weird situation and a complete accident and I am a little baffled. I wasn’t really intending to sell him until he was under saddle because I wasn’t sure how to price him. However, he turned out to be a cute little guy with nice movement and I have had a few people interested and asking me what I want for him. I don’t want to over price him, but I want to get what is fair.
Here are the details-
*I purchased a mare as a project. Nice but unbroke 5 year old branded/papered Hol. mare. She has fantastic movement out of a well known stallion. I bought her directly from the breeder/stallion owner. She free jumps beautifully and has multiple full siblings with impressive show records in the jumpers.
*A few days before the hauler was scheduled to arrive the seller told me she was in foal and was bred by his two year old colt who jumped the fence months back and would likely foal in 4 months.
*The two year old is her half brother by the same stallion. So the mare and the stallion share the same sire.
*The foal is now 4 months old and very correct and attractive. A spitting image of the mare (who very much favors her and the stallions sire). He moves very well and is put together nicely.
*He has been 100% healthy and free of any known issues (I was obviously expecting a 5 legged monster)
*The foal, at best, can get a COP with the hol.
What would you price this foal at? I think he is too nice to just give away. I envision as a newly started 3 year old that I would be able to sell for $10-15k if he has as great of a brain as his dam. Any thoughts would be helpful.
Thank you
