Help - Pricing on older pessoa

Hi There,

I purchased this pessoa about 2 years ago and was wondering how much you all believe that it is worth? It is a 17 inch, medium tree, pessoa, I really don’t know anything else about it but that it has a cosmetic issue on the pommel, doesn’t effect the saddle at all. It has numbers/letters in a code on the billets but im not sure what they mean, would love any help! Pictures below.

No idea but…that’s going to need a new seat. That’ll split back along the seam pretty quick now that it’s started. Will run 200-600 depending on who does it and what kind and quality of leather. You ride in jeans?

Just a guess but that serial number, 460136 MIGHT mean it is the 460th saddle produced in 2013, in June. Or not…

Some years back, early 90s, I sold a 5 year old Pessoa AO in much better condition and got a disappointing 40% of the purchase price. About 2004 I sold a 6 year old Butet with split seams between knee roll and flap for around 75% of the purchase price ( had recently replaced the seat in that one) Just a few years ago, sold a 6 year old Childric in very good condition for about 65% of purchase price.

The Pessoas don’t hold their value as well as the premium brands do in most cases and the seat damage isn’t going to help you. Check e bay for comps, price it correctly and somebody will buy it even with the damage.

I just got a similar, slightly newer Pessoa in better condition off eBay for $800 a few months ago.

That # on the flap is the model#. Since it starts with a 4, I now that it was made sometime after 2002 or 2003…when English Riding Supply took over US distribution for Pessoa. Before then, the model#s started with an 8.

The M is for Medium tree. Since it doesn’t have an X or F stamped on there, it is a regular flap. (X = Long flap and F = Forward Flap)

I don’t know what model it is, but since it it stamped with “Rodrigo”, my best guess would be a Gen-X.

And yes, you really do need to get that split fixed (could probably patch it for a while) before it gets worse.

A couple years ago, I bought a 6-7 year old Pessoa for $500. Sold it about a year later for $250.

It was in good condition and my daughter loved it, but she outgrew it (I think it was about 16").

In that condition, you’d be lucky to get $200. That’s not one of the “good” ones. Not a huge demand for old Pessoas, plenty are available, they don’t go for megabucks anyway, and that one has a big split in the seat too big to ignore that will either be an ugly patch or an expensive repair.

I inquired recently at Smith Worthington in Hartford CT (local to me) and they said a seat replacement usually runs $600-$700. YMMV.

I sold an older Pessoa AO without any cosmetic issues for $295 two years ago. I started at $400 and there was absolutely no interest in it at that price.

There is one in this shape in my area for $250 and it has been sitting awhile.

I have an old one sitting in my barn, with an adjustable tree and I have been meaning to sell it but realize there probably isn’t a market for one. The one I have is either a 16 or 16 1/2 and I have the tree adjustable parts. Bet I can’t get much for it either.

Yours might be worth a bit more. If it has an adjustable tree, it is at most 7 or 8 years old as that is when Pessoa first started making the ones with the adjustable gullets.

It looks like a Pessoa Rodrigo, and probably around the late nineties early 2000s based off of the new market color that was all the rage around that time. I can’t say much for what I think it could be worth, but as an idea, I would think that if you get anything for it maybe a trainer or program, is in need of a lesson saddle? Those don’t have to be perfect, and at least the ones that I’ve rdden in are decently balanced. Rather then trying a store where people are going to stay away from the rip, maybe you could ask around if anyone is in need? THe rip will contiue to go all the way back IME.

No, this one is much older than that. It was given to me by an old friend. She has not ridden since the late 1990’s. This saddle is more than 20 years old.

The saddle was most likely made in England by Harry Dabbs. They had a problem with the seats and it was not until the production was moved to Argentina was the problem resolved. Seats are really expensive to replace - maybe $500 or so.
